Hey everybody, just wanted to leave this post here and introduce myself to those who don't know me.
I'm Eric Decker, the sports editor over with the Athens Messenger. I guess I'm y'alls contact for information during the season, which might be unnecessary since a lot of you seem to have much more information that I can provide, which is wildly impressive as I scroll through the site. I'm excited to branch out and start to connect with the fans more.
I'm a 24 year old from New York, I wasn't very much in tune with the history of Ohio football and I'm slowly learning. I will do my absolute best to try and get the information that the fans want to hear. I want to act as your voice directly to the program, I plan on being on the site to help answer questions or even hop in a few discussions.
As I see many of you have known and discussed and I was previously unaware of before taking the job, the coverage isn't nearly what it used to be. I'm the only person in the sports department currently and the focus has shifted more towards high school sports in Athens County since they have no other paper to really cover them. I still am able to make the weekly media session and every home game, but other than that the coverage is limited. We are generally allowed one practice a week to talk to players and have Albin's weekly press conference, but the information given from those are often limited.
Rounding into my second year on the job this season, I hope to provide more in depth coverage and photos this time around. I'm excited to get going on the year and hope y'all welcome me.
