He signed a 4-year extension with the Hurricanes; takes him thru 2020.

Yea no coach has ever left after signing a new contract. Extensions are worthless as far as predicting if he is staying or going.

He chose the lesser of two messes to clean up.

With all of those empty seats at a College/NFL stadium, it looked like he was back at Temple coaching.

I thought I heard Penn State isn't going to hire anyone with ties to Paterno.

They need a Lion.  Programs that are successfull and wish to continue that success do so by staying with those that have been a part of it.  Now, since I am not a PSU fan, I hope they hire someone without ties, clean house, perhaps bring in Bill Callahan from the Jets.  He would be my pick for them. Big 10 history, coached at IL & WI, took the Raiders to the Super Bowl, don't you know.

WOW, Talk about lucking out, Golden sure did. What other coach in D 1 has a 9 year contract. He is set. The university has given him time to rebuild their program, which is quite unusual in today's world of instant success.  If he can't rebuild that program within 4 - 5 years he's clearly not what everyone thought we was. He now has only the pressure he puts on himself.

Rediculous. If they had a Miami guy they would not need to sweeten the pot every time a good job opened up elsewhere. His first year did not justify this golden paracute. Oh, and don't think he can stink up the place for the next 8 years. Miami just made him a lot more costly to fire, when they do.

He was crossed off the list when Miami declined playing in a bowl game because of infractions (even though he was not there.  They need squeaky clean - which is not Miami.  Would have liked Bradley, but it looks like going outside.  Love the rumor/hope of Dungy.

You do understand that all this crap hit the fan after Golden was hired, don't you? None of this lies on Big Al's shoulders. There was great concern at the time the problems became known that Golden would walk out because Our Friend Kirby did not disclose any of it in interviews.

The extension probably has more to do with Hocutt's lie of omission than a 6-6 season.

That being said, I don't believe for a moment that Golden will complete the term of his contract at Miami. Nor do I believe it will be to Penn State in the near future.

This situation at Penn State is so toxic that there is no way they can keep this program in the family. Preservation of the family is the second most awful part of the deal.

Perhaps in some years, once the worst failures of people are forgotten they might go back to the family to restore the roar. But this is Chernobyl. Who knows when that could happen.

If I were Penn State, I'd get Troy Calhoun's phone number.
