EDIT:

Sorry, Ted.  Didn't see that you had posted this elsewhere until I'd already put this up.

I've heard we are headed there virtually regardless of what happens in Detroit.  My sources are slightly more reliable than BobcatBlitz.  If this is actually our bowl game, it plain stinks.  I'm happy our seniors get to experience the post season.  I'm happy our program wins more than loses now.  I'm happy our school is on national television for being successful.  I'm not happy about our crappy bowl game tie-ins.  Guess who won't be going to Idaho?  Me.

Yeah...I wouldn't even be able to afford the money, let alone time off work, to make the trip

You and me both!  I'm sure Boise is a wonderful city, but in the middle of December???  I can enjoy that kind of weather right here in beautiful Cleveland, OH without having to spend a penny.  Plus no direct flights to Boise.

Can't remember which team's players it was off the top of my head, but there was a story out last year that during some free time, several players were on a self-guided tour of the state house and basically ran into the Governor of Idaho in the hallway. He was so excited to see them that he brought them into his office, posed for pictures, gave a fair amount of time to them.

That's one HUGE reason I prefer OHIO hoops.  The Tournament is actually a true reward and you actually get rewarded with the big stage and an intriguing opponent.  We only get an NCAA birth once every 8-10 years but it's 50x the fun.

Utah State + Boise, ID = Double Whammy!

The psychological impact of having a strong football team is important. The level a school is playing at says a lot to outsiders about a university. Here I'm talking more about conference and performance within that conference. The perception is that a school must be pretty good to have a good football team. I don't think having lowel level athletics can hurt a school really but exposure value from DII to DI or moving from FCS to FBS is there. At the MAC level it takes more winning to earn recognition in any sport than the Big Ten. It might be worth something for a school to be in the upper half of the Big Ten basketball conference, to be in the upper half of the MAC regularly it doesn't mean anything. Its the same for football. To be recognized nationally a school has to be winning 10 games a year. Its somewhat easier to gain that recognition out of a conference like the MWC or CUSA with a program that wins 8 games a year or 20 in basketball. The MWC and CUSA were selective about who they let let into the conference so the perception is they are cut above the other mid majors and destination conferences for every mid major school to join. The MAC let almost anyone who wanted to join in like Akron and Eastern Michigan and now wonders why nobody takes it seriously.

Location aside, if I had to choose I would rather play Utah St than Arkansas St.

Obviously I would take Illinois/Purdue/Northwestern over either.

My preferred opponent is Purdue. I think we can beat any of our potential bowl opponents, but I'd really like to beat a Big 10 team, and in particular, one that beat cowtown. We haven't done that since 2000. Yeah, laugh at Detroit, but it's fun, it's close, it's indoors.

I hate to think that our reward for winning our division is to be shipped to Boise. Why are we affiliated with this bowl?

I would think that if it is already predetermined that we are to be banished to Boise regardless of Friday's outcome, an official announcement would have already been made.

You would think the MAC would want to send its best team against the Big 10 as well.

And the point is??

a) Gov so happy to see anyone in Idaho in the winter, personal tour guaranteed!
b) State house commissary is only restaurant open during Dec in Boise.
c) No one in Idaho talks to the Gov; only strangers.
d) NCAA influence peddling scandal about to break.
e) John Kasich never invited Terrelle Pryor to the State House - I swear!

Hahaha, I was going with (a) mostly, with a smattering of (b) + it being a slow job being the Idaho governor thrown in.
