According to www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop

"Akron: Sources close to the program tell us head coach Rob Ianello will be released from his contract following their final game on Friday. "

I guess what looks like 2 1-11 seasons, with 1 of the wins being over an FCS team will do that for you.  Should be interesting who they bring in to coach.  They have the best facility in the MAC in Infocision, lets see what he can do in that situation.

Jerry Sandusky to Akron.......   I know, I know but if we can joke about JC on a pogo stick on this site we can lampoon Sandusky.

the Zippies seem excited about the idea of bringing in Tressel.  can you imagine the insanity that would cause on so many different levels. its obviously a pipe dream, but a pretty funny one nonethelees.

Ianello's mother died two days ago.  Sad to see anybody go through this much in one week.

Maybe they'll convince Luke Fickell that if he wants to get another gig at a BCS college football school, he needes to prove himself in the MAC.

The Zippos have sure played uninspired football since the one-point loss to CMU.  They were outscored 121-16 by Kent, Fiami & Buffalo, and are trailing 52-5 early in the third vs. WMU.  One TD in 3+ games ain't gonna get it done.

EDIT: Make that 66-5 midway thru the 3rd.  5 TOs including 4 lost fumbles.

I doubt Tressel will ever coach a MAC School. I have thought all along since Fickell was made head guy at State that he would wind up at Akron at the end of the season.

Makes me wonder how overrated facilities are.

I am curious who they will end up with on their short list, Mike Leach to Akron? Worked for Frank leaving the Big 12 then after a year going to the MAC.

I think Penn State is interested in hiring Leach since they know if any players or coaches get out of line, Leach will have them locked up in the shed!

If you want to go outside the box, then maybe take a chance on someone like Mike Vrabel.  Yes, got it, little coaching experience.  Local guy, NFL playing experience, would likely cause a lot of buzz.  Does have some positive attributes.

Not sure if they want someone with a Mug Shot less than one year old.

It didn't stop O$U from making the hire.  However, I think they don't have much when it comes to judging integrity.  I still think he might be a better hire then coordinator X,Y,Z.  It really can't get any worse at Akron.  I do see your point as far as the recent arrest.

According to Stewart Mandel via http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/stewart_mandel/11/27/bcs-sec-voters-rematch/2.html

• How's this for classy: Akron coach Rob Ianello, who went 2-22 in two seasons, found out he was fired while driving to New York for his mother's funeral Saturday.

Since when is two years enough time to turn around a program?  I understand Akron was bad, but he was doing it with someone else's players.  We witnessed a bad run with Knorr at the helm, but I think he was fired after getting a fair shot.  I can't say the same for Ianello and Turner Gill.  Were either of them hired by folks expecting an instant turnaround with bottom-tier players?

The timing of the announcement seems heartless.  Of course, I don't know all the circumstances.
