I reserve the right to follow the '24 hour rule' which allows a fan to grip hell for the 24 hours after the gun sounds on a crushing defeat.  And, of course, I'm lying...'cause I may grouse for more than 24 hours.

What's the stupidest penalty in football--by far.  Not getting a play off in time.  It's not like the countdown clock is right in front of the qb.  So, good job by us to get one of those in the first quarter.

Of course, stupider than that would be two personal fouls by defensive linemen.  Nice show of inability to control temper and lack of maturity.

Then again, it would be much stupider than that to have two offsides penalties which each give the oppo a first down in the last 10 minutes of a game in which you're down big in the fourth quarter.  Talk about gift-wrap giving a game away.

Of course, it would be monumentally even stupider of the giftee (recipient of the gift) to not use the offsides gifts to lock the game away.

Check the game play-by-play.

Ohio drive starts with 10:34 left in the game, Ohio up 20-7.  Ohio runs twice for 8 yards, penalty in NIU for offsides so first down Ohio.  Ohio throws interception.

NIU scores, on drive including really bad personal foul on Ohio.  20-13.

Ohio drives starts with 7:30 left.  Three runs lead to fourth and 3.  NIU goes offiside on 4th down, giving Ohio first down.  Ohio runs for one yard, two incomplete passes, punt.

Ohio's fourth quarter offense well conceived to not get first downs, not thereby chew up the clock.  We abandon the hurry-up, the speed of the game that is to our advantage, and, instead of going out with spirit we go with timidity.  We go away from who we are...with rather predictable results.

If memory serves, NIU rushed a lot of guys during fourth quarter.  They certainly had a ton of guys up 'in the box.'  We refused to rush more than four guys.

Big surprise that we gave it away?  No.

If NIU doesn't make just half of the mistakes they made, they win the game handily. But they tried to give it away and the Bobcats gave it back.

Okay.  I'm over it.

Almost.

You owe me a spirited play, which includes a bowl win and that win vs. State, Penn.

Then we'll be nearly even.

We haven't won 10 games or a MAC title since 1968 and No regular season hoops title since 1994. Buffalo and Akron have more football titles than we do since they joined the MAC.  This team had this game gift wrapped to them at half time and had several chances to put this game away and failed to do.  The players choked big time in this one. They pissed their pants under the pressure of the 4th quarter.  Everybody was in on this choke job.

The only way the returning players and coaching staff get away from this is win the MAC next year. Until then the fans will remind them of the championship they blew.  Every offseason workout in the weight room, the spring practice and fall practice and all next season they will have the game they blew. NIU blew two title games before last nite.  This team has to get over this and play well in a bowl game.
