What are these guys doing when the ball is in the air?? I love how they play in short yardage situations but why is Octavius Leftwich and Jamil Shaw NOT IN THE GAME when teams are passing?? Such a waste of talent.

+1...corners on wideouts...safeties on running backs. Seems simple to me!

Just to add a bit...as a parent, grandparent and coach I believe in putting people in positions where they can succeed. I hate to see people put in positions where they will fail. This situation is no different. I just fail to understand how our staff can think that it makes sense to put a safety on their best wide receiver just because he is in the slot.
Will one of the football minds on this site explain it to me? What are they thinking/expecting with this kind of match up? My feeling is neither of the guys involved had the speed to stay with the wideout or cover the ground necessary to get to the ball?

I called this match up out earlier in the season..I questioned the staff on WHY Octavius Leftwich at 6'2 195 was not getting reps at the nickel spot..at practice this guy has looked amazing..Nathan Carpenter looked serviceable..at 5 foot 8 and made some key turnovers when in the box..HOWEVER looking at pass situations when teams threw to that Slot WR he would miss a tackle or not be tall enough to play the ball..this happened MANY TIMES. They started playing Leftwich against Miami and he did well considering..limited reps all season..CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 2 touchdowns over the nickelback...SMH. You have Carrie and Shaw who can play mutiply spots if given the reps as can the Leftwiches..something is wrong!!!
