Son, watching The Grinch, wondering why all the yelling and clapping coming from downstairs.

Only bad call, IMO, is not calling a timeout on defense when NIU is forced to punt at end of half. Lost about 20 seconds. Ohio can use all the points it can get as NIU is capable of putting up 30 points in a half.

We should have gone for it there - they were on their heels and vulnerable!

Notice we have several starters out on the offensive line but the line is playing well.

Need to get to 30 and I think we win! To use a Bobcat basketball quote "Don't Flinch" in the second half and close this out!

Albin is taking the Bobcats right out of the game and there's still over a quarter left in the 2nd half. Bobcats aren't doing anything that was successful on offense that worked in the 1st half and are settling for power runs up the middle and 3rd and long plays.

A drop in the end zone and a badly missed FG. The Bobcats had the chance to put the nail in NIU but instead they let them right back into the game...ugh

What is Albin doing? 1st and 10, chance to run at least 2 or 3 minutes off the clock and he calls up a pass play with deep routes? It's like he's trying to give the game away.

Had a chance to step on their throat at the end of the first half, could have called timeout with about 1:00 left. Chose not to use them,

This is infuriating.

Gave it away in the second half, just as they gave it to us in the first half. Those bookies know their numbers.
Pissed doesn't begin to describe it. Gag job of the finest order.

big advocate of using time outs on defense at end of halves

anyone come up w/ a reason not to call a time out w/ 1:04 left in half, NIU punting, Ohio w/ 2 time outs left and up 20-0?

That would be my first question at the presser. Step on their throats.

Wow, we just handed them that game. It was like we were an entirely different team in the second half, including the coaching staff. We did nothing in the 2nd half that was successful in the 1st half. We kept trying for the long throws instead of high percentage short passes that worked so well in the first half. I just don't get what they were thinking.

You don't figure to lose, up 20 at half, with an experienced coach like Solich. That's all I will say.

Absolutely. Why in the hell did we abandon everything that was working? They were keying on Harden but we run him straight up the middle on 2nd and 3rd???? Clock management was freakin' horrendous. 2nd half play calling sucked big time. Why throw the ball when we should have been running the clock. We got no pressure on Harnish in the 2nd half.

That was embarrassing to say the least.

Losing big games is the only real experience Solich has.  I have no idea why so many people here keep defending the man.  Sure, Ohio is better than they have been historically, but I feel sorry for you if you think this is good enough.  It's time for Frankie to go.

Everyone who was involved in the play calling in the fourth quarter should resign immediately. I am amazed people are being paid big bucks for such ineptness. Horrendous.

Could NIU have done more--incredibly stupid penalties, turnovers, dropped passes, injured d-linemen--to hand this game to us?

Totally agree that the coach's went FETAL POSITION.  They went to lock-up conservative mode, which is okay with a ten point lead with three minutes left in the game, for the whole second half.  No short and mid-range passes, no use of Blankenship or Boykin. None of our deceptive, make you cover the whole field and so many guys offense.   I think that we blitzed Harnish once the whole second half.

Contrast the chickensh*t timid play of our whole second half yesterday with the magnificent spirit of our final 7+ minute drive against BG in which we executed our standard playbook in you-can't-stop us fashion

This is entirely on the coaches.  I've read articles on the 'net about use of sports psychologists to help players learn how to overcome adversity, how to perform in clutch moments.  I love our staff.  But they definitely need to find one of these sports psychologist types so that they learn how to play (coach) well in tough moments.

MONUMENTAL loss yesterday.

Only solace is that we will play better in the bowl game and we are on the rise.  We are just getting started, folks.  Next year this team will be better.  And better the year after that.  Etc.
