Now I finally understand why Solich was fired at Nebraska with a 9-3 record. It never made any sense until I saw the second half of last night. I told my wife befor e we missed the field goal they need to run it , get the ball int the middle, pick up a yard or two and win the game but instead the throw for the end zone. Then the drive from hell with the interception on the deep ball, what a stupid freekin call when you need to run the clock. Lastly, nice motivational speak and adjustment at half time. I could care less about a bowl game after that stupidity.

Dude you do know that Frank Solich does not call the plays. And as a Head Coach you don't change a play like its a John Madden Video game.

Then you know there was a time when it took 4-5 years to win 9 games.  Coach Solich is the best thing that's happened to Ohio Football in 40 years.  Someone made a GREAT post on another thread, Coach Solich didn't build a team he's built a program.  We've become a player in the MAC year after year.  We're starting to make a habit out of going to the MAC Championship and bowl games.  

Nobody is more sick than me after last night's loss but they happen, they'll happen again.  I doubt Coach Solich or any of the players feel any better than we do this morning.  On to Boise for an Aggie beat down!!!

Don't get too cute and don't play not to lose.

Although I think this will be the last championship game we'll see for a while I think Solich deserves a lot of credit for the job he has done.  When he took over Ohio football was AWFUL.  Now we're starting to see some consistency in the program.  All I'm waiting for now is a year when they can put it together on both sides of the ball.

It isn't likely to happen next year and maybe not the one after that but I'm hoping for it to happen sooner than later.

If I were Frank I would

1) Give this team a few days off. No football related activities.
2) Do something fun with the team. Team BBQ, Movie night. Something.
3) Take the blame - even though the players are as much at fault. When you win its we, when you lose its I.
4) Apologize to the fans - For being outcoached, not having the players ready to play in the 2nd half, and the lack of intensity coming out of the locker room after halftime.
5) Hire an excorcist to get rid of the demons that surround this program.

28--Those are very good suggestions.  It's gonna take something different to quickly put this one behind us.  The coach's should also set a deadline for grieving for pondering this game.  Come tomorrow at noon, for instance, all thought of yesterday should be banished.

With all the threads on last night's game I wasn't sure where exactly to post these comments.

Personally,I began to worry about how we were approaching the game at the end of the first half.
As soon as we knew NIU had to punt,I say call time out,preserve time on the clock and take a couple of shots downfield.
This shows NIU you're still gonna be going after them.Even if they intercept,its in their end and there's not a lot of time for it to hurt yOU.Instead we do a "prevent offense".That makes you look satisifed and/or  worried.

I do think that,after losing the way they did,the team,especially the seniors, would like a chance to get the bad taste out of their mouths.

I'm upseet we lost,but as some one who went to O.U. in the mid 70's its nice to no longer be the doormat of the MAC.

Why do you feel it will be a white til we get back to the MACC?  We have TT, Beau, and Boykin for 2 more years, Foster is coming back at WR and we have a number of young guys there waiting to step up, Thompson is back at TE, and we are pretty well stocked on the OL.  On D we have Huynh, Scott, Jones, and Crutcher coming back on the line, at LB Woseley and Lewis return, and we have our entire secondary coming back.

I know we lose key contributors like Harden, Brazil, and Dunlop, but we have a lot of talent coming through the pipeline to go with out returning players.

Great post. There's something happening to us Bobcat football fans. We're reaching a new level of expectations. Grobe and now Solich have set the bars high on this program -- with Solich bringing us to new heights. Who would've really thunk we'd be going to our fourth bowl game in five years? Really? Just think about that for a second.

We now expect to be at this level, which is not a bad thing as long as we respect the effort that the players and coaches put into these successful seasons instead of taking them for granted. I, like many of you, are not satisfied with a MAC Championship loss and want a championship and a great bowl bid. And we are passionate and upset when we don't win it all -- as we should be.

But, let's not call for someone's head when when fall short in a 9-win season -- with a chance to win 10. Let's appreciate what we have in Solich and what his players have done.

The reasons why I think we are in trouble next year is that we lose almost all of our starting offensive, line, Keller, Brazill and return a lousy defensive backfield.  I am not at all optimistic that such losses can be easily made up.

I could be wrong, but don't we only lose 2 OL?  And from the rumors on here, the two guys that are gonna step may be a step up from the guys we are losing.  I'm sure there will be a transition for the OL as they gel, but we are certainly not looking at a bare cupboard next year.

I feel like if Moore and Hughes and stay healthy the entire year, we could be looking at a much improved secondary.  Do not underestimate the growth process a lot of players go through during the offseason.

Sir, respectfully, you are showing a lack of insight.  Your Bobcats are not your typical Akron, Miami, Buffalo or NIU.  Lavon and Noah will not be replaced, but, overall next season's team will be bigger, stronger and faster and capable of putting it together in all three phases of the game.  Overall the team will be better.  There won't be a rematch in Detroit next year, but, it will be NIU missing.

I sincerely hope you are right, but how do you propose that they address the gaping holes left by graduation at LB and the sieve they call a defensive backfield?

Secondary will be improved upon during the offseason; keeping everybody healthy next year will be crucial too.  Linebackers will be our weakness, but recruiting a JUCO or a stud frosh will help shore it up. 

I think that we'll be fine next year and (depending on the recruiting class) dare I say a FAVORITE to win the MAC?

Again, to provide you a little insight.  MAC stats show the defensive backfield second in the conference in pass defense efficiency.  You disrespect some fine athletes with the sieve remark.  That they have recently seen some very fine playmakers that have made a few plays, as they are prone to do, does not mean we have a poor defense.  About the LBs missing Noah, when he missed most of the Miami game all we saw was Kieth Moore step in and win MAC Defensive Player of the Week.  This is not you uncles Ohio.  Players coming up are coached and ready.  Take a moment and actually get to know your team.  If you really knew them you might show them the respect they deserve.

Listen up, Bcat.  I've been following this team since before you were in diapers.  So spare me your lectures.  This defensive backfield got torched by Rutgers, Buffalo, Fiami and last night by NILU.  They are sub-par. Period.

YES SIR!  (Bcat2, standing at the position of attention.)  Since before I was in diapers, have you really been following Ohio since the early fifties?   Now to your point, I remember the defense starting like the best in a long time.  Then some very key injuries occured right about the Rutgers/ Buffalo time. I recall  Leftwich, King, Keller, Hughes, Huynh and Jones all injured.  Hughes was up to 3 ints by Rutgers.  The injuries to the line does affect pass pro, if there is no pressure or if you have to cheat a little to run support, it is all connected.  Miami was a win.  NIU, all week long it was discussed that they would be good for 30 against the Ohio D, they got 23.  Against NIU the D just needed a little more help from the offense.  This is a fine Ohio team. The coaches are constantly addresing the needs, getting Hughes back will help a lot. However, I have no doubt sometime there will be a torching, Lavon burned some DBs on Ohio'a behalf, it happens.

Ohio has a very good shot to be back in the championship game next season.  On D, there are lots of DEs to fill in for Meyers and while Keller will be particularly tough to replace, there's Keith Moore, plus highly regarded Ben Russell redshirting this year and JUCO transfer Tim Edmond coming in.  All other starters, besides Meyers and Keller, return.

Offense has more losses.  Losing five starters isn't terrible but they're all really good players (Strum, Flading, Brazill, Dunlop, and Harden).  But WR and RB have lots of athletes ready to contribute more, and OL even with the losses is in way better shape than in previous years.

But...there's a bowl game to win before any of this becomes relevant.

I like that we have a Nathan Carpenter on D now. I heard he got burned alot Friday (am in Europe and couldn't get the game online) but his dad and brother played/play pro so he'll get better with time. I've watched since the 70s, this OU football is way better (my dad played for OU in the fifties, guess what they were .500, so we're better now than the WWII vets even!

Wait a minute.  Hasn't some of the stress on the db's been because of our lack of pass rush and lack of special talent at linebacker?  Plus, we graduated our whole d-line last year.  That is to say, we lose guys to graduation every year.  So why think that our graduation losses this year will leave us significantly weakened?

Will we be better next year?  Will we be more talented and deeper?  Will we be in the MAC title game?

I GUARANTEE IT.

Probably we'll be nationally ranked, too.
