HUUUUHHHHHH

If he's 80%.... wouldn't that mean he isn't fully healthy... and thus could be a risk of further injury.

He's not a plow horse. He's got higher ambitions outside of winning an August game vs San Diego. That I can promise you.
Right, I don't think the major implication of this injury is how much pain is he in that might affect his in game mobility. It is more the risk of reinjury and it not fully healing as well as it could. Also, if he has been limited in camp due to risk of reinjury how close to 2022 Kurtis is he right now with respect to what it might be after a few weeks of full practice and less risk of reinjury. If he has rust is playing him worth it? We don't know enough about any of this to project where Kurtis is.

Hey everybody! Sorry for the slight delay in getting more information in but I was able to talk to Sam Wiglusz after he was put on the Biletnikoff Watchlist.

Danneker/offensive line piece:

https://www.athensmessenger.com/sports/offensive-line-con...

Wiglusz:

How was the summer? What were you working on?

“It was a good summer. We had a really good winter and spring, which makes everything easier. A lot of good guys are on this team so we're just excited to get to work this summer. We got right back into it and it was a little bit of a squeeze because of the Week 0 game, it was a little bit different than usual and less time off but we’ve got a lot of good work in and came to camp ready to go and we’re ready to go.”

How important is the continuity from last year to this year offensively?

“Last year we had new guys, and now those new guys are old guys, which makes everything a lot easier. The relationships are getting better on and off the field which makes it easier on the field. We lost a couple guys but there’s some young guys that people might not know about that are big time too. We’ve got a lot of guys in a lot of spots that are going to help us.”

How’s it feel to be put on the Biletnikoff watchlist?

“It’s pretty special, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to get on the field and show what I could do here. I’m forever grateful to what the coaches here have given me and it’s pretty special.”

Are you the back up long snapper?

“That is true. A couple of years ago during COVID, we had some guys with COVID at Ohio State so then they were trying to find some guys who were on the cusp of the travel team that could potentially long snap. The coaches, they came up to me and said ‘Could you long snap?’ and I said yes. He was like ‘Have you ever before?’ and I was like ‘No, but I could.’ I figured out how to do it, I got with some of the long snappers there, they told me how to do it. Luckily I never had to do it in a game and I would have to warm up to long snap in games, so it was pretty fun.”

“I think I’ve I showed them once or twice that I know how to do it but no, I’ve never done any practice or anything.”

How is it coming back for year two at Ohio?

“Last year I was a little lost. I had done four camps before but it was totally new people, a new facility and a new schedule. This year is exactly the same and I’m feeling really good, made a lot of friends during the time and got close with the coaches so everything is a lot more comfortable and I feel good really good about it.

What is the goal for this season? (Can’t say MAC championship)

“That’s tough because it is the goal… I’d like to be All-MAC again, I think that would be really fulfilling to do that two years in a row and I think if I had the opportunity to do that again, I think all the team goals will come too. If I can do what I need to do to put us in that position, then we can win the MAC Championship.”

What in your game specifically have you tried to improve on?

“I’ve been working a lot on yards after the catch. I feel like I had quite a few touchdowns where I was catching the ball in the endzone or going into the endzone, so I’m really trying to work on making that first move and getting a couple of extra yards after the catch. I put on some weight, got a little bit stronger so maybe break a couple tackles. That’s been my one big focus.”

Not true. 80% meaning 80% ready. Maybe arm strength or running speed not 100% back yet. Athletes are often fully recovered from injury but only partially or mostly game-speed ready. If he can't move and is just a sitting duck back there and our O-Line isn't ready to protect him adequately, of course we hold him out.

You confirmed Atkinson is the next starting guard. That was probably expected. We could make a really good guess at the #1 for all starting 11 offensive players going into camp. That's usually a very good sign. Lets hope these guys, including Rourke, are able to play in every game.

When the reinjury vs. 100% question was asked of former OSU team physician and sports Doc by washed up weekend warrior (me), the answer was succinct; “Let pain be your guide”. Put another way, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. If Rourke can play, he’ll play.

If this statement was specifically referring to an ACL tear then I certainly won't question a team physician. If this is the case then I definitely do expect Kurtis to play as we have seen he is basically mobile right now. We know from Russ's reporting that he did play some in the first team scrimmage though I seriously doubt that he was allowed to be hit in that game like he would be against SDSU. Most statements from Kurtis himself since spring have indicated that he thinks he will be able to go by then.

However, if this statement is a generalization on most injuries, where I'm sure it is true in most cases, then reading medical opinions online doesn't seem to agree that it always applies to an ACL where there is a lot of risk of reinjury and it possibly not healing as well as it could. We can infer from Russ's statements on Marty's radio show that he had not been cleared as of a few weeks ago even though we saw from Nathan's wedding weeks earlier than that that he wasn't in much pain even then.

This thread brings to mind an injury suffered by my son Ben when he was playing U-16 soccer. While marking an opponent, the opponent's knee struck Ben and cracked his pelvis. When I saw the x-ray the crack appeared to be about an inch long and at least half an inch wide.

I asked the doctor how long healing would require. His answer: Ben's body should generate new bone tissue to fill in the crack in about 4 weeks.

So, a month later Ben and I visited the doctor. He showed us the new x-ray. The crack had filled in.

Ben said, "Our team will be playing for the league championship next week. Will it be safe for me to play?"

Replied the doc: "Yes. You might feel twinges of pain, but your pelvis is ready for play."

Amazing how youthful bodies can heal!

Ben did play, he felt little if any pain and his team won the league title.

I like what I'm hearing from Albin on a few of the freshman. Second time now that he's praised Kobi Gorman (DL) and Chase Hendricks (WR).

Always curious about injuries and if there are any potential serious ones of concern besides the typical bumps and bruises.

Just gotta like Bryce Houston. Hope he has a great year. Around the minute mark of the camp video Ted posted a reserve freshman defender intercepts the ball and Houston runs out on the field to congratulate him, completed psyched up. Very cool.

Any word on Ches Jackson? or Jack Kenneally? Are they practicing? Enrolled?

Still neither listed on the 2023 roster.

We've been really lucky with some good AD's in the past, and it looks like Julie is continuing to build her reputation as well.

Named FBS Executive of the year.

We’ve also had some really bad ones. I think the jury is still out on Julie. I have a friend who thinks her whole orientation is toward national athletic business and that her goal is to become recognized at that level so she can get a better job. This award might be an indication of that. I don’t really know the criteria and your link did not work. It brought up a blank page on OhioBobcats.com. This friend thinks she really doesn’t give a darn about olde OHIO, and is simply using us as a stepping stone.

She was also named co-chair of the NCAA steering committee a few years ago. Someone thinks she's a pretty bright mind.

The previous two AD's went on to be commissioner, and AD of The U. Of course she's using it as a stepping stone, that's a good thing.

Better than having to fire people for ineptitude.

Do the best for OU with the time you have, and move on. Like most of us did. This isn't the supreme court. To expect someone to commit to a lifetime role is not logical.

Also, it's peer nominated. Like with most things brought up on this thread, not good enough for Athens, but good enough for the rest of the world.

I'm okay with being a stepping stone as long as you leave the place better than you found it. Schaus at least gave off the impression that he was committed to winning and delivering an enjoyable fan experience, and I'd definitely say he succeeded. Cromer from my vantage point seems committed to serving on committees. Her introductory press conference didn't mention anything about team success or engaging fans. Maybe she's more the way I'd like to people closer to the program

Yep, that’s exactly the point my friend has made. She doesn’t get these awards because she’s helping OHIO improve the athletic program or the fan experience, but because she has a high profile serving on these committees. Her focus is on national athletic policy and not on leaving the OHIO campground better than she found it. I’m not sure I 100 percent agree with him, but I’m beginning to think he might have a point! Making fans swelter in the heat for the LIU game, instead of a nice cool night game is one small indication that she doesn’t really care about the general fan experience. Maybe, though, she is catering to the BA drunks who like to hit the bars before and after the game, and down a few at halftime on the Academic Center balcony.

Just to be 100% "upfront" , I haven't been a fan of JC since she was hired.
That hasn't changed.

I think the fact that she wasn't named AD at Arkansas, when she was their "Senior Deputy Athletics Director" was telling.

One complaint a number of people, including me, have had, is her lack of communication ,including responding to emails.

What's going on with the wrestling team is the latest example of this.

I don't recall the AD issuing any type of statement when they placed the coaching staff on Administrative Leave back in March.

We are now over 2 weeks since O.U.P.D. issued their Statement saying there
would be no criminal prosecution.

Yet, neither the Athletic Director, or, for that matter, the new President has yet to issue any statement about what what's going on with the team or coaches.

It also seems like the team hasn't been told anything either.
