Our favorite AD Tom Boeh is at it again this time firing its highly successful football coach Pat Hill after 15 seasons. Granted Fresno had a tough year in 2011 but Pat Hill sent the Bulldogs to 11 bowl games in 15 seasons. For a WAC school that is an excellent track record. Fresno is also moving into the Mountain West next season and I'm not a big fan of firing a successful and loyal coach with the conference power dynamic changing dramatically over the next two seasons. Risky move and Boeh already slashed Pat Hill's pay in half from what it was under his old contract. So reptilian by Thomas. Another Boeh classic.

I was at the Northwestern stadium the day before the game in 2005 and met someone who had worked with Boeh and when I mentioned his name he rolled his eyes around.

If my research is correct, Fresno was good enough to play in the Humanitarian Bowl last year and this year beat Utah State.

Good research!

You know this dufus would have fired Bill Hess after the 1965 0-10 season.  He's a total moron.  I still remember the conversation I had with him at the Athens post office about my letter to the editor of the Dispatch asking for the firing of Knorr after the 44-0 Beefs disaster.  He hired bad coaches and fired the good ones.  (I don't give him credit for the Solich hiring.  That was really McDavis' doing as I understand it.)

I can't stand Craig James, but he's right with that statement.

In 15 seasons, Fresno never won an outright WAC conference title under Pat Hill. (they were in a three-way tie in 1999.) I found that very, very, surprising given some of the national pub they've received.

Hill's predecessor at Fresno, Jim Sweeney, won 8 conference titles.

My information on the next coach based on Twitter is that Tom Boeh will hire Trev Alberts because he has nice hair and parts it from left to right.

Recent Pictures of Tom Boeh seems to indicate he is supporting Mitt Romney!

"After an exhaustive 24-hour nationwide search, we found we already had the best coaching talent right here in Athens able to take us to the next level." (paraphrase).  Boy was he right.  That next level was right back to Cleve level.

"Head Coach - In Waiting" at Wake Forest?

I think we were 7-4 Grobes last year with a win over Marshall and had 18 or 19 of the 22 starters returning in 2001.  Gut wrenching loss to Crackon and it went downhill from there!

Say what you will about the man, he has a magnificent set of chompers. He has to spend 10 grand getting those teeth lasered white every year.

Hill got fired for the same reason that Ralph Friedgen got fired at Maryland.  People stopped going to games.

My lasting impression of Pat Hill stems from a game about 8 or 9 years ago when one of their players steam-rolled a punt returner twice with head high hits well before the ball even got there. He was tossed after the second one which broke the punt returners arm if I recall.  They then panned the camera over to the sideline and Pat Hill is laughing with the just ejected player as he is being carted off the field.  I'll shed no tears for Pat Hill.

Two points:

1. Knorr may be ready to be a head coach when Grobe retires at Wake or at another job even sooner.  He wasn't ready when Grobe left Ohio.  It was a cruel joke.

2.  When Boeh fired Hunter in Athens, the crowds got smaller as many of Hunter's 2000 closest friends and family stopped coming to games on a regular basis and the locals had trouble "warming up to TOS."

Hiring the wrong guy is an entirely different issue than whether you should have fired the first guy.  If Danny Nee, circa 1980, had been hired I doubt we would have seen a large dropoff in attendance.  We just happened to hire a guy who kept us at the same level as when Hunter was fired and was not very likable.

He has since come out and said that wasn't really true.  He was friggin pissed however and Randy Edsell hasn't done of a very good job of handling it either.  I think most Maryland fans felt bad for Ralph but wanted him gone. It wasn't handled very well though.

Didn't an ESPN talking head(Vitale)say the same basically thing when Boeh fired Larry Hunter?

Boeh once called me an f'ing a-hole (um, I paraphrased) due to a Letter to the Editor of the Post that I wrote about how Athletics had a monopoly on all of the practice-fields in Athens and weren't giving the 110 anyplace to practice. Thankfully that situation is much improved these days.

What a guy.

I think it was Phil Martelli.
