WMU loses 37-32, and on a 4th and goal from around the 3 they go for it and fail.  On another drive they have fourth and shortage yardage on the 20 and again go for it and fail.  In retrospect, two made FGs would have possibly given WMU the victory.  At the time, before the each of these plays, I thought they were bad decisions.  What did you guys and gals think about those plays and this game in general?  In short, I'm glad we have Tim Albin calling our plays.

Even if he doesn't know how to coach a QB to take a snap under center!

Disclosure: Although I usually pull for MAC teams, I was in a neutral "mode" for the WMU-Purdue game.  Reason: A childhood neighbor and friend to this day played DB at Purdue and once led the Big 10 in punting.  He lives in Arizona and recently sent me a "huzzah!" after Ohio's win over Utah State.

I saw nothing unusual in subpar play calling by the WMU staff tonight.  In virtually every bowl game this season I've seen what I regarded as subpar play calling and clock management. 

I also find myself concluding that officials from other conferences are no more skilled than MAC officials. 

Sign of progress?  I've seen most of all the bowl games played to date.  With the exceptions of TCU and Mizzou, to me it seemed as though Ohio, playing its best or near its best, could be competitive with other bowl teams that have seen action. 

WMU, like OUr team, has an offense configured to be more effective and dangerous with lots of field to work with. All due respect to the notion that shotguns and pistols give the QB some "read-and-react" options (that ultimately were exercised grandly by Sir Tyler Tettleton, Esq. to deliver OUr very first bowl/post season win) ...

BUT (you had to know that word -- or HOWEVER -- was coming): I'll take "Wisconsin," thank you. Or something out of Woody Hayes' playbook that doesn't involve punching opponents and gets a first down (in the context, however, of a heart-breaking Evil Empire loss). A power set, a la Ohio with Mitch Morsillo playing the role of road-grader (to use an example that doesn't involve any favorable mention of the frigging Evil Empire!).

Desperation play calling perhaps in response to a) inability to hold on to the ball, as stated above, b) inability to keep Purdue from holding on to the ball (and scoring) and 3) pschological damage caused by losing two onside kicks in the 1st half.  Really now, when did you last that see that  "happen" to a team?  WMU was lucky to even be in this one late.

Us, last year, vs. Lou-La. Boo throws 4 first half INTs, Lou-La comes alive in the second half, and they recover two (I think...maybe three) onside kicks. We were REALLY lucky to escape that one with the win.

I couldn't help but thing WMU fans yesterday must have felt just like Ohio fans when NIU came from behind to win the MACC. Seemingly a million chances to capitalize, and not one was taken. The games were in hand if silly mistakes didn't give the game away, and both did...

And in the same respect, the end of this game tonight (Air Force/Toledo) seemed so much like the end of the Marshall game the other year. Super gutsy call to go for two at the end and the win, but very questionable as it didn't work.

I'll take 3-1 for the MAC though so far.

Watching on TV, that game certainly did have a very solid crowd.  Felt bad for WMU.

A few years ago when CMU played Purdue in the Pizza the announced crowd was 66,000+.  I suspect the difference was that each team had a high-profile QB that provided an added draw, and maybe the better economy also was a factor.
