Optimism that would have been unfathomable not long ago!  Don't you love it?

So everyone is clear on the rules, the MAC #1 selection goes to Mobile next season and the #2 will go to Detroit. To earn a berth in a BCS game the MAC Champion has to finish in the top 16 of the BCS standings and rated above any other non-BCS conference champion. A MAC divisional winner is guaranteed a bowl game. Boise has #3 selection and the #4 is the BBVA Compass bowl in Birmingham Al.

As someone said earlier, while it is AWAYS good to be a Bobcat, right now it's OUstanding to be a Bobcat! Wins over all of the bowl winners so far this year or from last year-LA Lafayette), it's good to be alive!! And a potential Top 25 team in hoops-my head's swimming!!

Anyway, unless Ohio goes undefeated next year (which to me is doubtful with the key seniors we've lost), I don't see a BCS game in the cards. A MACC and a win in whichever bowl has first choice of choosing a MAC team is good enough for me.

Wes beat me by 7 seconds-I hope we get Mobile again. That would be a blast!

Wes: Are you sure?  I thought Mobile and Detroit rotated the rights to #1 and since Mobile gets it this year, Detroit would have the honors in 2012.

That being said, I want whatever bowl the MAC Champion goes to.  And hopefully I'm wrong and it is Mobile.

Yes, Mobile and Detroit rotate the #1 pick, but they often swap to get the best regional draws.  For instance if WMU or Toledo is runnerup, Pizza might swap with GoDaddy so that champion OHIO would go to Mobile and the Detroit "regional team" would go to the Pizza.

You've caught me on the oversight. Next year Detroit does have the #1 pick while the Mobile game is #2. This means in Ohio's case that as long as the team performs at its usual 8-10 win MAC East winning level they'll be heading to Mobile since it will have been 6 years between appearances. Even if Ohio wins the East they'll probably opt for Mobile as Miami played there in 2010 as the MAC #1 in a year where Detroit was slated in the #1 slot.

Yes! I voted for a BCS game because of a non conference schedule with Penn State, Marshall, NMSU and Norfolk State which I think the Cats will run the table on. My prediction is the Cats will be in the top 25 early in the season after the big upset at Penn State and begin with a 5-0 start ascending to about #16 in the rankings for dropping a close game against WMU. From there the Cats will drop back to about #25 in the polls but will continue to win out the remainder of the season to finish around #10 at 12-1 the MAC Champions and selected for a BCS game. I would suspect if OHIO is chosen for a BCS bowl most likely they would be playing in the Orange Bowl of all places because its sensible geography and they are the game that has never hosted a non-AQ participant. It should be an exciting season and I would consider the signing for next year of a few stud DE's like Ty Branz the remaining pieces to push this program over the top.
