Does anybody want to write about the MAC's success in bowl games and what it means for its reputatlion?

Do it a few years in a row and we'll be on to something.  Gotta hold on to the coaches though, which is tough.

I know last year I was convinced the Sun Belt conference was speeding past the MAC.  This year, not so much.

Beats the heck out of a few years ago when the MAC went 0-fer two bowl season in a row.

I don't think the Sun Belt has ever finished ahead of the MAC in the Sagarin ratings.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

In Sagarin Ratings Sunbelt was ranked higher than the MAC in 2004 and 2007. The 4 point advantage to the MAC in 2011 is the biggest lead that the MAC has had since 2005, however.

SF,
Kudos for a short, sweet post that calls attention to the fact that stature isn't an isolated condition. You are indeed judged by the company you keep. And being in a conference that hasn't subjected national TV audiences to a collective display of incompetence certainly has made this bowl season enjoyable for us!

I will say, though, that we should not be assuming a "W" for NIU against Arkansas State.

No matter what happens, at least the MAC East went undefeated this bowl season.

One of the fun things about this is it gives the MAC a good chance of winning the Bowl Challenge Cup if Northern Illinois wins.  This shows the current standings:

Today (12/31) WSJ has a section, Down and Distance, by Rachel Bachman titled: Enough Already With the Little Guy, subtitle, Why College Football's Power Conferences Should Ditch the Smaller Ones.  The picture is of an O$U ball carrier running past Akron tacklers with a line below asking, The Akron-Ohio State game in September.  Do these two programs belong on the same level?

She writes that the big conferences must deal with the "leeches in their midst" and thinks the Football leaders must confront the schools that Gordon Gee knocked in a  "deliciously" candid interview as the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Perhaps there is a political future for this babe as she knows where to draw the line of rich and poor.  Indiana is rich and not at all a leech but Ohio and Miami are poor and leeches sucking BCS money from the rightful participants.  Wonder what her thoughts are on the cheaters?

As of today, MAC teams have won as many bowl games (3) as B10 teams (3). And the B10 has had nine chances for wins.

BTW, 7 losses for tOSU this year.

Question: Who was the only team in the state of Ohio to lose a bowl game this season?

Hmm . . . could it be that junior institution up in the flatlands of Central Ohio?

Some neat tables in the link.  Makes me think that while FLA is nice to recruit, it may even be nicer to get some Texas players!  I think no Texas team has lost this Bowl season.

If Northern Illinois wins tonight the MAC will share the lead with CUSA for the Bowl Challenge Cup.  As a matter of fact, if NIU wins tonight the MAC and CUSA will be co-champs regardless of who wins tomorrow night (LSU/Ala.).  In other words, with an NIU victory tonight, the MAC will finish ahead of Big 10/12, Pac 10/12, Big XII, ACC, Big East, SEC, Mountain West, Sun Belt and WAC.  Not bad at all!

Mid Majors are not leeches on the BCS, they are the willing patsies that allow for inflated winning percentages and self-preservation.
