Last year's New Orleans Bowl had to use almost $100,000 of the same fund.

At $40/ticket, that means Ohio sold a whopping 49 tickets.

My estimate going in was 50 so I'm not surprised. The Bowl realizes that MAC teams can't get many fans put to that geography in that time frame so they up the payout to compensate. To get a nationally televised Bowl game for $10K is a good deal. I'm glad that the Athletics Dept. saved their ammunition for Gary Trent Day and the IPF.

I don't know why, but I continue to be amazed at little support (Crazy support) we have when we only sell 49 tickets. I would think a couple hundred at the minimum.  But I can't talk because I didn't go because of conflicts.  We've got  a long way to go to be taken seriously by most people. 

Now that is disgusting.  I would think that  a trip to Hawaii would be a no-brainer.  Oh well, there's still too many bowls. 

One solution would be to make the bowl announcements sooner.  It is well known that airfare gets more expensive once you are less than 14 days from the trip.  The Boise trip was officially announced 13 days before the game.  I would have tried to make the trip if I had 10-14 days more notice.  At first I was critical of Boise, but in hindsight I was completely wrong.  I am almost compelled to say it is the second-most appealing game to me behind going back to Detroit.  It is the best deal financially for the university and the locals seemed to support the game.

If you buy your tickets on Southwest ( CMH to BOI ) during a sale or a couple of months in advance  you can save alot of money. That's how I can afford fly to most of the OU games.  Southwest  is a savior as  there is no cancellatiion fee and if you cancel you can use the tickets up to one year. More fans should go next time Boise was a blast.

I feel like Ohio has built a program that that fans can now expect to go to a bowl game on a pretty much yearly basis and budget accordingly if the really want to make the trip.  If i was one with disposable income, I would personally buy my plane tickets to whatever the most expensive flight would be (in about 99% of the cases, Boise) at the beginning of the football season.  I bet they would barely break $200 bucks round trip each.  I know Southwest lets you change your flight (i'm not 100% sure, but I THINK you just pay the difference for the tickets, tell me if i'm wrong).

And if they make it to some place where you think it's worth driving to (like D.C., Detroit, ect.), cancel the flight and just hold onto that honor voucher for whatever trip you might need to take within the next year (OOC basketball game anyone?)
