Bobcat72 is correct.  Why add just to add.  Get a good program...or two instead!

The time to do the following has probably already passed, but we should have been getting together with a few of the MAC top schools along with the best from CUSA, especially eastern CUSA schools as well as independents (Navy & Army) and looking at forming an entirely new league.  No offense ment, but the schools being suggested on here for membership in the MAC will only insure we remain a joke of a conference.  Sorry, but I see the MAC falling farther behinid.

Don't bet your mortgage on those feelings you have.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Cutler Hall and the Roundhouse on Richlarnd are burning the midnight oil over this type of a scenario.  Without revealing any sources, I do know that certain significant forces within the Marshall community would very much like to see something like this happen, Chuckie Landon notwithstanding.

I think you are   not correct about "significant forces within the Marshall community" wanting to rejoin the MAC. I know you post on The Herd Grapevine" but those posters don't represent the MU athletic feeling of the Marshall power brokers. MU would not be investing over $30 Million in new athletic facilities if MU had any interest in returning to the MAC. The MU Board has told he MU President that the MAC is the not ideal situation for The Herd and the MU AD has made public statements that MU is not interested in returning to the MAC.  The Marshall administration will  follow the MU Board on their desires, or you might see changes in the Marshall leadership. WVU would love to see MU return to the MAC for obvious reasons and this is why MU will not return to the MAC.

I am not tying to be a "flamer" and I enjoy the OU/MU series. The OU/MU "rivalry" seems to be more intense on the OU side and I hope the OU fans show up in great numbers for the game in Huntington this year.

F.T., I do not take your post as "flaming".  In my post which was cited, my intent was not for the MAC to look to expand, I would rather see an entirely new conference.  Why bail on the MAC?  Because unless something dramatically occurs and soon, this conference will become the laughing stock of D-I athletics, if it is not already there.  While other conferences at least pay lip service to the need to do something to improve themselves (including recent statements from the Sun Belt), we seem to be very content to do nothing.  Our fans speculate on how to attract the next bottom feeder to the conference so that they can build a program and leave for greener pastures, such as UCF, Marshall and Temple.  There is no real commitment within most of the conference schools to do anything to improve themselves, with the possible exception of Akron, Toledo and ourselves.  However, if we are content in staying in the MAC, get use to bottom feeding because that is all this conference offers.  Unless there is a dramatic change in the MAC, we need to take the next opportunity to get off of this sinking ship!

Flat Tire:  I think OCF's point is that there have been rumblings that Marshall would like to form a new division within the CUSA/MWC conference merger that would include a few MAC teams, including Ohio.  We'll see what happens.

Yes, Jeff has it basically right, FT.  I was responding within two contexts:  One, the possibility of a new, eastern time zone oriented East C-USA division, or an entirely new conference.  When I was talking about "significant elements in the Marshall Community" I was not talking exclusively of my friends on the Marshall board but also some folks I know who are listened to by the upper administration at Marshall.  There is lots of worry right now in "Old Maze" about the direction of C-USA and they want to be proactive rather than reactive in their approach to the situation.  I hope Ohio is doing the same.

The question is more what is in the best interest of OHIO and I don't see how joining a conference with Marshall a school that has an overlapping media market is a good deal for us. Having Marshall as a 9th game after the 8 game MAC slate is good for our travel and crossover fans can root for both schools to win in conference. What would really be good is if the MAC East played more competitive football. Lately its only been us and Temple and everyone else has been a joke. It would be nice if Kent and Buffalo were 8 win type programs and could make the division race more exciting. That is what we have in MAC East basketball, yearly 3 to 4 teams that qualify for the post season and are serious contenders for a MAC Championship. It would be great if the division race was important again like it was back in 2003 when Miami and Bowling Green were both sitting in the top 25 and Marshall was a solid 8 win team. I wouldn't want to see a Miami return to glory, make it another school in our division but the point remains the biggest issue is play on the field.

I don't think the overlapping media market (Chas-Hunt) would be a problem.  Instead, we'd actually start getting some decent coverage again from them.

DelBobcat,

You are in a better position to know than I am, but I had heard a few years ago that Delaware was interested in the MAC, particularly if JMU came along for the ride.  I don't live in Delaware, but I once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express there . . .  well actually at my aunt's cottage in Bethany Beach  (used to be our regular summer vacation spot).

Well I won't pretend to have any insider information but I feel like the general consensus among fans (I go to every home game and also went to the Villanova game this year) is that they are very happy being a big dog in FCS and aren't interested in becoming a small fish in FBS.

With that being said, UD is in the midst of upgrading all of their athletic facilities. You can make of that what you will.

As for Bethany Beach, it's very nice, but I'm more of a Dewey Beach guy myself. You can't beat a bucket of Coronas with your feet in the sand bay side at Que Pasa.

Well, we couldn't beat the price in Bethany Beach -- free.  We used to go up to Rehoboth in the evenings sometimes.  There was a calzone place with name of Nicoli's.  We loved their Nico-Boli!  Also, south of Bethany Beach there was a restaurant called Harpoon Hannah's.  Going there was an annual ritual in those days, in part I think because my wife's first name is Hannah.  We've talked about going back some time.  The more I think about it the more I like that idea.

I'm surprised the MAC isnt trying make "]["emple pay for your vacations as well. For a team that brought nothing to the MAC, our departure seems to be presenting a significant cost in damages..and apparently you still want us on your schedules.

Don't flatter yourself.  But like with the Big Least, the withdrawal of any team would cause rescheduling problems for at least eight teams, and maybe others.  Besides, if there's any savvy at all at Temps, they'll have the Big Least pick up the tab, so "Temps" likely won't have to spend a dime to enter a conference that will have all the appeal of an evening with Rosanne Barr.
