What a let down of a crowd. Does the department not have a ticket sales team anymore? I remember a few years ago they had a full student staff that really increased attendance, along with those family
Packs. We’ve really gone down hill.

I’m assuming the plan was to build a base with cheap tickets, then raise prices. The plan failed. Those people were only in those corner seats because it was cheap.

It does at least look better than when Kansas was here.

Honestly it seems like most of the students have stuck around the second half. That alone makes this crowd more impressive than probably 95% of the rest.

Cheap butts are better than no butts. :)

Agreed. I understand the thought process, but it sure was nice having that one corner filled up most weeks early in the season.

I think at least 20% of the crowd were ISU fans - maybe more after halftime......

I was watching on TV and was expecting a sellout with Victory Hill packed.

What happened?

Less student interest? Seemed like a good student crowd there. Where are the locals / Columbus alumni base? I was thinking of driving from Chicagoland to see this one, now I wish I would have!

On TV it looked like the student section was pretty full, even in the 4th quarter. And on ISU's last possession you could hear the crowd yelling "defense." Maybe ESPNU just had a mic in the right place.

One problem with our slow-down offense is that it takes the crowd out of the game. It's hard to yell for a full 40 seconds when the players are just standing around.

That offense shortened the game and brought home a win. Excellent clock management

Sure, Jan.

Meanwhile there are people in Tuscaloosa who want Nick Saban out.

It was nice to see so many folks still in the seats later in the game when we drove by on our way back from a high school volleyball match. Just for Athens High School alone, you had a volleyball match, golf match, boys soccer, girls soccer, and middle school volleyball and soccer. Then there was the PawPaw festival. Lots going on today so the crowd we saw late looked pretty darn good considering.

You're not wrong Alan. It's just....different.

When's the last time the $uckeyes worried about a drop in attendance at the Shoe because of middle school volleyball and "the PawPaw festival"?

Just two different worlds. It is what it is - good win today.

On the ISU boards, the ISU fans were praising Ohio's clock management for the entire game. Ohio limited ISU to only 47 total plays for the entire game, while Ohio had 69. That's a massive difference.

Really impressed with the student section. I don't think there's a MAC school that rivals it.

Shared several predictions with my son about this game, beginning with a midweek prediction of an Ohio victory. Most of these predictions proved correct until the final one. I was telling about the students rushing the field after the OT win v. Pitt in Frank's first season, a year before my son was born. I told him that OUr students would rush the field again today with the final seconds ticking off. For some reason - lack of initiative? security? - there was no rushing on the field. Still, a good showing by the Ohio students.

Field rush would have been small time. Even for P5 in the building, there was no dramatic finish and ISU is not ranked.

I’m just gonna quietly suggest that Noon kickoffs in August and early September are not very attractive to the casual fan.

That said, I thought the crowd was solid and they stayed engaged. Kudos to the students, especially this that we’re leading cheers late in the 4th qtr.

And kudos to ISU fans for traveling despite expecting an easy win (I’m guessing).

Agreed.

We should’ve won. And did win.

And I thought the crowd was great. Didn’t hear the announced crowd, but it felt like 24K+.. There were several hundred people - including myself - who escaped under the Sook Center balcony for long stretches.

OU is a Rourke injury from a speeding train towards 14-0.

Crowd today listed 22,000.

Iowa State didn't travel very well. I'd say 1,5000 to 2,000 max. Their traveling base seemed preppy/well to do like OU grads who would follow Ohio St.

Student attendance was solid but not at the 2015 level. There are 3,000 less undergraduates. If half go to a football game like this then it's 1,500 students less to occupy the victory hill.

What a win! Probably the biggest win at home in program history since Pitt in 2005. I’m very happy with my fellow students turning out, entire student section was packed through first half and held strong for the whole game. I thought we were all pretty engaged and made some serious noise. I don’t think they would have let us rush the field anyway - a crowd of us tried last year when we defeated BGSUCKS - security shut that down pretty quick. But again, not really a game that deserves a field rush - excited about this team. Defense is stacked - I’m sure offense will pick up soon. Thought we were a bit conservative in play calling but it worked out in the end.
