Don't sleep on LIU. They have a bunch of people on Phil Steele's NEC Preseason All Conference Team

Offense
1st Team
WR - Michael Love
WR - Davon Wells
TE - Owen Glascoe

2nd Team
QB - Luca Stanzani
RB - Pat Bowen

Defense
1st Team
DL - Eric O'Neil (Preseason Defensive Player of the Year)

2nd Team
DB - Larry Elder

Our D-Line better get some pressure on the QB. I don't want to have another Fordham type of shoot-out game, especially if Rourke doesn't end up playing.

Do you remember in 2017 when Nathan Rourke beat out Quinton Maxwell for the starting quarterback position and by the end of that year Nathan had established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the MAC? Then in the first game in 2018 against a Howard team, where we probably would have been a 4 or 5 touchdown favorite if they put lines on FBS vs. FCS games back then, Nathan looked rusty and Quinton had to come off of the bench and save the day. I'm told that Kurtis looked great in what he was allowed to do in the scrimmages but that he needs the reps. I hope that if Kurtis goes he looks better than his brother did in that first half which was probably his worst in his career here. I can see he did look a bit off yesterday a couple of times but to me until he got taken out he mostly looked pretty good. The thought of Kurtis not having all the offseason work has made this bad memory pop into my head.

So all the skill players on offense are slated to be all conference first or second team. Sounds like our defense will be tested

You're not really complaining about the game time are you? You know we're not allowed to do that on here.

Saturday forecast - 90 degrees with a real feel of 93.

They haven't done well vs the MAC lately. Two years ago they lost to MOFO 42-7 and last year it was Toledo winning 37-0 and Kent 63-10. That's 142-17 in three games. We don't overlook anybody but I'm not overly concerned about this game. We seemed to come out of the SDUS game with no major injuries on D so I expect we can handle them.

It's truly amazing the entire southern college football landscape is able to function without soft boomers yammering about the temperature at kickoff.

Totally different cultures between southern football on a Saturday afternoon and the MAC and almost any conference north of the Mason Dixon other than the Big 10.

You can get in the door for a 2:00 kick at Ole Miss vs Mercer (ESPN+) for $4 this weekend.

For Iowa State and national TV, no problem. LIU as your home opener is kinda blah, but a new freshman class excited to see college football for free is more likely to come out for night game. Think too that it's band day and so many of those bands come out in their full heavy uniforms. Thankfully it's calling for a manageable 81 degrees.

+1 I said that same thing earlier about this not being a night game. I was roundly roasted by the usual suspects. This is one where we called the shots, not the darn TV network. I give the AD an F on setting this game for a sweltering noon kickoff rather than a cool and balmy 7:00 kickoff. Let's not use our Jody Phillips funded lights for a night game until the temp approaches freezing November. What a farce.

I don't disagree with you. I think we'll most likely be fine but it will surely be a test for the defense. They won their last four games after switching QBs to Stanzani who likes to sling it around to his skill players mentioned above.

Stanzani (last 4 games)
74 / 117 -- 1,105 Total yards (276 yards per game)
12TDs / 3INTs

This is a game Ohio should control. I don't overlook FCS opponents but LIU is not the same caliber as Fordham was last season and the Bobcats are much better than they were when they lost to Duquesne two years ago. I expect OU to win convincingly.

Like I said before the last game, turnovers are the most important stat for a team to win games.
We can't lose the TO battle this week as that will probably be a real help for LIU to stay in the game.
The 3 turnovers were all generated by 1 player, all INT's.
With Curtis starting and hopefully playing a good portion of the game that will be a plus.
If Harris plays and causes another TO he should be pulled for #3 QB, no discussion.
Let's start fast and finish strong.

Do we know if Jackie O's or any other bars open up early for these noon games? I'm bringing some out of towners and would love to show them a small taste of OU while we're down there.
Jackie O's: Noon
Pigskin: 11
NorthEnd: 11

What kind of food/beer situation are we looking at if I get there at 9-10AM for the game?

Casa's open at 9AM. If memory serves me right, that includes the bar. Bloody Marys?

No offense to LIU but they play in the NEC which caps football scholarships at 45. On paper we should win this game going away. However, I also remember the Duquesne game from a couple of years ago and realize that they too were and are a member of the NEC.

This program has had too many close calls and a bonafide defeat to a FCS just two seasons ago for me to assume a victory. Still I think the Cats pull away 35-21.

Bobcats vs FCS school since 2016

2016 - W - Gardner Webb (37-21)
2017 - W - Hampton (59-0)
2018 - W - Howard (38-32)
2019 - W - Rhode Island (41-20)
2020 - N/A
2021 - L - Duquesne (26-28)
2022 - W - Fordham (59-52)

While the last four games vs FCS teams have been less than stellar, I do feel much more confident in the defense after the SDSU game.

We'll see if any book starts taking action on this game. I'm thinking we'd be about a 4 TD favorite or maybe even a little more. Obviously, we can't lose this one.
Some started this morning or last night. The line is 38.5. Gotta put these guys away.

Based on all the information -- solid and otherwise -- that I've come across, I expect that Rourke will start but not play much beyond the 1st quarter, unless the game gets real tight. He'll play just enough to get in rhythm, but not enough to show FAU anything of importance and not enough to cause any level of fatigue.

Helps the LIU game is week 2. The old saying is teams typically see the most improvement from week 1 to week 2.
