Is Nathan willing to come dress as Kurtis for a game or two? Nobody would notice, and it could work as some offseason training for Nathan.

An MRI may be read by a radiologist anywhere in the country so not having it done in Athens wasn't the issue. Some MRI's are read in India. If someone in Utah or Nevada with out military can control a drone attack 10,000 miles away with a precision strike on bad dudes then an MRI may be read far away from the facility that did the imaging.

Perhaps they dropped him off in Columbus on the way home after Balls to see the specialist--that is who is important in the situation.

He'd probably mix up the plays!

Regardless, for your starting D1 FBS quarterback, you have the entire procedure, certainly as it pertains to the initial exam/diagnosis, done at a good and specialized Sports Medicine clinic, not O'bloodymess

Its not just reading the MRI.

Its being able to physically examine the injury.

When I was seeing an ENT in Pittsburgh he always wanted scans done at his hospital because he trusted them more and he could better explain to them about the angles he wanted (it also kept the money in-house). Specialists just like to use their own facilities.
UPMC has three gamma knife units...the most in the nation as far as I heard...actually I contacted them in 2018 and about getting an acoustic neuroma zapped there but they acted like they were tired of hearing from people out of state about getting the procedure done there. And Vanderbilt here surprisingly didn't have gamma knife. (Got it done at Wake Forest)

Apparently Albin was optimistic he might play at the press conference this morning.

If he is (being allowed to) walk around without crutches, then I can’t imagine how this would keep him out next week.

This has reminded me of a game years ago that many of you certainly saw; the famous Byron Leftwitch in a fireman’s carry game. One of the most amazing things I’ve witnessed in sports. A QB who was unable to walk, much less run, chewing up an OU defense while being carried by his O line between plays. Maybe we need that kind of mindset here.

That actually happened against Akron. He chewed up Ohio's D plenty, but did not need carried those days.

Leftwich was a completely immobile QB with an accurate, rocket arm. running was just never part of his game.

Now we have to consider whether Rourke will play and just be a statue and whether our offense can move that way, or if the "full Rourke" will be on display.

Either way, I hope CJ and Cal are both getting some reps in this week.

Wonder if Albin is playing the media/BG staff by downplaying the injury?

If I knew Rourke had no shot at suiting up, I would tell everybody I knew that he was good to go.

Harris and Rourke have completely different skill sets and it would seem difficult to adjust to Harris' running style/speed option after preparing for Rourke's air-it-out style all week in practice.

I don't think he's downplaying anything. From what I've heard there isn't anything structurally wrong with his knee, meaning no major injury. It sounds like it's a mild sprain. There are grades to knee sprains, with a grade 1 recovery being as little as a few days to a week. A grade 2 could be a few weeks recovery, and a grade 3 longer. I'm guessing he has a grade 1 sprain based on the fact he's walking on it without any crutches, there's no swelling, and most telling to me is that Albin eluded to wanting to see what Rourke can do on the practice field on Friday, which tells me he wants to see how he can move on it. There's no way he'd be evaluating his status tomorrow at practice if this was something more serious.

Harris is going to be taking a lot of the snaps this week and they'll have some plays ready that are built around his skill set and we'll probably see him some no matter what.

We need some corroboration. I have never seen a Marshall -Akron game but I know I saw linemen carrying Leftwitch. Somewhere.

Honestly, I think a week with first team reps and the ability to get a set package around his ability to tuck it and take off he'll be fine.

Obviously, we all want Rourke - but I'm not writing off the offense quite yet. CJ can still sling it. Spread them out and run.

I was at the Rubber Bowl to watch Marshall - and its OL carry Leftwich forward after a complete pass.

Harris has been one play away from playing almost the entire year, so I have to think he’s gotten plenty of reps in practice over the last several months. I’m not too worried about Harris being ready to play.

Watched that game on TV in a friend's dorm room in Perkins Hall my freshman year as we were getting ready for the Halloween Party uptown. This was the same season the Cats fell to Akron as part of the infamous "roughing the snapper" penalty.

Ohio was still alive in the East race at this point and a Marshall loss would have been huge. The Marshall O-linemen literally helped carry Leftwich down the field play after play as they moved the ball as he could not put hardly any weight on an injured leg. While I was obviously cheering against Marshall, it was a pretty incredible thing to see for many reasons. Clips have been used in many commercials for sports over the years-ESPN or otherwise.

Marshall won and came from behind to do so, IIRC.

At least the Cats beat Marshall at home later that year to end on a high note. Then Grobe left for Wake a few weeks later.........

If Rourke is able to play it is further disturbing that toledo effed up against BG. even if able to go next week an extra 10 days would have been welcome. Albin and Rourke may be faced with the age-old issue of what further damage could take place if he comes back too quickly.

That's amazing news, I hope your source is right. It looked like it hurt immensely based on his reaction on the field. Replay didn't look like much but I saw a knee hit the back of his leg/knee and he went down like he just snapped his leg.

The reaction is what was most telling to me.

O'blenness doesn't have an MRI? seriously?
having an MRI machine is largely (obviously not entirely) irrelevant. What you need is the good radiologist and orthopedic/SportsMedicine doc to interpret the results in combination with the physical exam. If i were a highly regarded NCAA QB, or a 60-something who is otherwise active for that matter, i would much rather get that done by a specialist in Columbus than by whoever is working at O’Bleness (all else, insurance, transport, etc) being equal
Well, as it happens we have one of the best diagnostic radiologists in Ohio working at O'Bleness. He is a professor at OU-HCOM and routinely reads scans from all around the state from his office at OMH on difficult and complex cases. Some of these are referred to him from the Cleveland Clinic. These days it's just as easy for a radiologist to read scans remotely as on site because they can be sent electronically over encrypted connections to any location in a matter of seconds. Now, OMH doesn't have the sports medicine experts for the consult, so that would be an important factor in deciding where to have the MRI in cases like this where it's not an extremely urgent matter.

The roughing the snapper penalty was 2000, Grobe's last year, and yes we beat Marshall, however...... The infamous game against Akron with the broken leg was 2002 his last year, and Marshall lost that game.
