This would reduce the number of college football teams playing in the post season.  No, that is not a misprint.

A playoff is a must, but 64 is crazy. Unlike B-Ball, football can't do 2 games in a weekend. This would be a drawn out, 6 week process. Take 32 teams and eliminate the conference championship games. Guarantee a place for the conference champion of all D1 conferences and I am "in". All that said, it won't happen.

But notice he doesn't say do away with the bowl games.  This could be in addition to some of the bowls, which then may need even more teams to fill them up.

The field of 68 for the b-ball tourney is currently based on 344 teams while there are about 1/3 that many 1A football teams.  So 32 should be the max, with 16 being a more manageable number, given the fact as Medina mentioned that you can do only one game a week.

Something that should also be fixed is the ability of schools to hire coaches from other schools whose teams are in bowl games.  It's really unfair for teams to have to play a bowl game with a different coach than the one who got them there.

It never mentions bowls either way.  I think it is obvious this proposal would cause those to go away; perhaps with some of the more historic games hosting late-round games.

Here's what I think about the whole play-off system.

16 teams, 11 conference auto-bids like basketball.  5 at-large. Done.

Agreed.  And have the NCAA actually run it, like every other sport.
