The commenters seemed to be a lot more realistic and less egocentric than most AQ schools.  Maybe it's the humble pie they had for (and since) Thanksgiving.

Well, if I'm right, their author will be wrong about one thing. I expect Ohio to "reload, not rebuild". Ohio has much more depth than they did five years ago. I don't think Ohio will miss a beat at tackle or at wide receiver. I'm sure Penn State will be a favorite by a TD or so. I expect a hard fought game, and it will tell a lot about the Bobcats how they play in that environment.

Optimistically, the MACrifice reference is borne out of the last couple of games PSU has had with Akron.  The rest of the piece is complimentary on the whole and fair IMHO.  RE: MACrifice and the ZIPS, if you lie down with dogs, .......

Has to be a phrase that the blogger has used in the past. The article and the comments from PSU fans are, for the most part, very respectful to the Bobcats.

Actually a good preview, especially when you consider it is on a blog of a fan of a different team.

I would add that I think it works strongly in Ohio's favor that they get to be the first game for the new coach. Sure, Ohio won't know exactly what Penn State will run, but the flip side is that Penn State won't run it very well, yet. More often than not, when there is a coaching change, things go down before they go up. Yes, emotions may be high, but there are new systems for both the offense and defense to learn, and they typically have some learning time before they become proficient. Given the old saw that the defense is typically ahead of the offense, usually the offense is where the issues with adopting the new systems show up the most clearly.

It's easy to look back at Ohio and remember the Pitt game from 2005, and think, oh, things got better right away, but really, they didn't. It is important to remember that in that in the Pitt game, BOTH teams had new coaches and new systems. Ohio won partially because Pitt was really bad on offense 268 yards, 3 turnovers, 3 points). The other early 2005 games were not good, especially on offense. A 38-14 loss at Northwestern with 239 yards of offense for the Bobcats, while giving up 550. A 45-0 drubbing at Virginia Tech with a 189-475 yardages disadvantage. An ugly 35-32 win to a bad Kent State team. Then came a 38-14 loss to BG and a 37-10 loss to CMU.

I'm looking forward to this game. I hope it's on National TV. The Bobcats were 5-1 on national TV in 2011. I'm not sure what the Bobcat's record is on National TV, but I'd have to think it's pretty good. I'd like to start 2012 with another W in front of the nation.

I will tell you this.. Nitters are full of themselves right now. I'm not sure why other than they signed some in state talent.  i guess they feel like the program isn't as dead as they thought it would be.

However, the Sandusky trial starts in May which will cause even more problems of image than they've experienced so far.

The Board of Trustees just basically bashed Joe Pa again which sends all alums in a tizzy.

They think Bill O'Brien is the next, well.. Joe Paterno.. just because the guy hung around Tom Brady for a few years.

I really really really think you guys can take them.

No doubt it will be difficult to replace #47.  And it may take some games before we see the play, but I'm still betting that our linebacker play overall next year is better than last year and pretty good overall.

With everything that PSU has been through - there is no way this isn't on national TV. At the very least on the Big Ten Network. Maybe Gus Johnson will call it.
I'd have to guess ESPN would pick that sucker up.  I don't see it falling to Big Ten (which, by the way, televises all Big Ten home games, so as a minimum, BTN is guaranteed).

"MACcrifice" is not something this blogger just created. It's a phrase that I have observed multiple times over the last 5 years (if not longer). And it's not associated by Penn State types. If you read JJHuddle, watch or listen to the Columbus sports media, its a term that has been used in discussions surrounding Big Ten schedules.

As a lifelong Penn State fan and this will be the first time I am rooting for them to lose. The last 4 months have been draining. This is a winnable game for us and that has nothing to do with the events of the last 4 months. Over the last 6 years Ohio has gradually built a consistent program that I believe can compete with and beat any team that falls in the bottom 3/4’s of any BCS conference. Penn State falls into that category this coming season.

It will be an emotional game for Penn State, but emotion will only carry a team through the first series or two. After that, I believe Frank’s experience and our team’s depth(when could we ever say that in the past?) can bring us the result we are hoping for.
