I just don't see this working at all.

How about the MAC takes Thanksgiving week off and finishes the following weekend?

The MAC Championship is the following week, and bowls are announced that Sunday, so that wouldn't work.

I'm all for it if it a road game. I'd much rather play at Crew stadium (or heck, a mall parking lot) than another black friday game at Kent.

If they could set up an annual game between OHIO and Kent State for Black Friday in Columbus Crew stadium I think it would be a winner. Ohio has 30,000 alumni in metro Columbus, double the amount than what they have in all the counties that comprise Southeast Ohio. A huge local alumni presence, close enough for the local Athens fan base to drive up and do some Christmas shopping and more convenient for most of our alumni across the state to attend then making a game down in Athens. No issues about hotels if you want to stay the night in Columbus. Alcohol served in the stadium. It sounds like a great way to juice up the season ticket packages. As long as the game sells at least 12,500 its better than what sales would be on either Ohio or Kent's campus. Kent is a huge school that could bring a nice crowd, so realistically 8,000 to 10,000 Bobcat fans would be enough interest to make this happen. ESPN might want to bump this up to a game on the deuce instead of ESPNU with it being played in large market Columbus. I wouldn't move the game with Miami off campus but with Kent it makes perfect sense. Then Ohio fans would have a third major regular season series to look forward to beyond Miami and Marshall.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. Kent would need to step up with some fan support, but I could see Bobcats in Columbus getting behind this game. At the very least, there's no harm in giving it a shot. two year deal (each team gets a home share). See what happens. Is it really that bad if we lose one home game the day after Thanksgiving?  The game either means something and we draw a decent looking 15k in Columbus, or it means nothing and we draw nothing in either location.

At first when I heard of this idea, I thought it was terrible.  Why would we play at a smaller stadium, be forced to pay probably somewhere in the hundreds of thousands to rent the stadium on Black Friday?

But then I thought about it, and I'm starting to like it.

I don't know the exact number, but being a current student, I know there are a lot of students in the Columbus area, I feel like close to about 1/3.  and keep in mind that around half of them live on campus, so they can't really feasibly come down to Athens for the game, because all of the residence halls are closed.  I would much rather, as a student, go to a Bobcat game that is a half hour's drive, and knowing the athletic department, attend for free, than travel down to Athens, watch the game in a aging stadium (Don't get me wrong, I love Peden way more, but the Crew Stadium really is something else), and then drive back right after.

Second, as stated before, There are a lot of both Kent and Ohio Alums in the Columbus area, and for the non-shoppers, It would be a good way to get out of the house and enjoy a nice football game.

Third.  THEY CAN SELL BEER.  That's reason enough for the 21+ students to go.

Weather less likely to suck in Columbus.
10-15 k in a 20k stadium is better than a 65k stadium. It would look awful at Cleveland Stadium.
