I assume the new football practice jerseys are a sure sign Ohio has renewed their Russell Contract. I am pretty sure this was the last year of the deal.

After what they did for Ohio with the black uniforms last year, they definitely deserved a renewal.

After what they've not provided in terms of fan apparrel I don't think we owe Russell anything.

They did offer us the black jerseys at about half what you could expect to pay for a similar product from a "big" school.

I guess companies should be falling all over themselves to get at the 15 or so jerseys we would sell/year.

I am with you here.  Even though we do not move the volume of merchandise some other schools do, I have found myself on several occasions wishing I could purchase some of the Russell gear I have seen players and coaches wear.  Most of what you see the players and coaches wear at your larger schools is available through several vendors.

I also can appreciate where Russell is coming from not wanting to be stuck with a lot of inventory that may not sell.

Two things...

Why can't/doesn't Ohio Athletics open a team shop to sell official team shirts and polos just like the players and coaches wear?

And Russell's retail and bookstore reps should be working tirelessly with Follett's and College Bookstore to get their product in the window and on the shelves uptown.

The only thing worse than our non-conference schedule the past decade is this replica jersey!  Looks like the green version of the Gerry Faust Notre Dame jerseys.

Actually I think it looks like one of the local High School's jerseys (I think Athens High)

While those black jerseys are awesome, they aren't really practical to wear. I didn't order one, but I do have a game jersey I bought at last year's surplus sale. I look stupid in it (more stupid than I look normally).

What I want is a true replica jersey that has all of the design features of the real ones, but fits like a normal shirt. Something that Nike, Adidas and Under Armor make available for most of their schools.

On a side note, last night I was getting on to my normal CTA train here in Chicago when I noticed someone wearing one of those black embroidered  Ohio jackets that you sometimes see athletes wearing. I couldn't see his face but I thought maybe I was about to be mano a mano with DJ Cooper!

I chose the seat across from him but when I sat down it was not DJ Cooper. Instead it was some super creepy dude with a tear drop tattoo under his eye. I was kinda staring at him trying to figure out if this was some former Bobcat that had fallen on tougher times, but I looked a little too intently and he gave my a look back that scared the bejesus out of me. He then called someone on his cellphone and was screaming that he was going to kill somebody and was just generally manic. I had to switch cars at the next stop! What a let down....

Yikes!  I bet that jacket has quite a story to tell.  Who knows where all it has been between Athens an that manic's back.

Usually when I see someone wearing fan gear that appears to be outdated I error on the side of caution and assume it was a Goodwill/Salvation Army special and not that someone dropped $150 on a Starter jacket back in '94 and love it so much they still wear it.

I don't know.  Seems to me that you let the emotional excitement of the moment, of seeing an OHIO in an unexpected place, overwhelm.  You should have tried conversating with this local Bobcat follower.

Maybe you can gather with the dude and his posse at a watering hole for some ESPN Bobcat games this fall.

I agree 100%, and brought this up during Bobcat Caravan.  I think a few well placed, polite emails to the marketing arm of the athletic department couldn't hurt.

$150 for an authentic is about inline with what you'd expect to pay for one from any other college.  If you're paying in the $300 range for an authentic jersey, you're either buying an NFL jersey, or you're being ripped off.

[pssst, you're being ripped off either way]

Do we know for sure if there is a new contract with Russell or is this just speculation?  The last time we had a uniform deal there was a press release and article posted on the website.  If they did agree to a new contract I certainly hope authentic fan jerseys was somehow written into the agreement.  Five more years of waiting for authentic apparel is just not going to cut it!

Whats wrong with the black jerseys? I have a game jersey too, I love to look silly with those big a** sleeves. There is something you don't see with larger schools.

I guess I was confused about price. Been awhile since I cared enough to shop for one.
