SEC and Big Twelv create an anti-Rose Bowl:

As if they didn't already have enough bowls between them -- they each have 8 already. Sounds piggish to me.

De facto semi-final in a plus one format. ACC is screwed. Now we know why FSU wants into the Big 12.

They are doing this because they finally figured out that the universities should be making tons of money on these bowls, not losing money.
Now they put this game up for bid and ask for a guaranteed amount of
profit
for each participating school. Or the conferences run this game themselves.
It amazes me this took so long.
All the existing big bowls will be gone within 4-5 years. I think the tipping point was UConn having to pay millions to play in a BCS game. That's just crazy.

I haven't read any of the details of this plan and I don't intend to because I agree it's just pigish.
If the members of the BCS conferences won't work together to preserve their own status without this kind of selfish grab what hope is there for the whole structure?
The assertion I've heard floated that the Big Ten - PAC 10 efforts to preserve a decades old tradition in the Rose Bowl is stubborn or uncooperative, albeit a basic truth, also denies everything good about the sport; i.e. history, tradition, old rivalries, inter-region competition, etc.
The lunatics have definitely taken over the asylum and I don't see it ending well.

I may be reading this wrong, but if this is an anti-Rose Bowl (?), how do they expect it to do anything? Adding a bowl in a system that's already drowning with bowl games will solve something? Not to mention the fact that it's not even necessarily a conference championship and with a league that is losing two big members.
Then, there's the Rose Bowl, one of the biggest traditions in the sport. You mean to tell me that a game between two conferences that've won the title for the past six years or so (not even conference champions) is going to mean anything to a game that's been played for 96 years? I could be reading into this wrong, but I just don't buy it.

Are you guys sure it's not the bowls that have been piggish?
And that this is a reaction to that?
