I got a kick out of listening to UC football coach Butch Jones being interviewed by Marty Brenneman during Sunday's Reds game. Quite an impressive salesman in addition to being a D-I football coach. Marty asked him about UC's schedule this fall and Jones went overboard declaring the difficulty and attraction to fans of a non-league schedule of Delaware St., Miami (OH), Va. Tech, Fordham and Toledo in addition to playing its Big East opponents.

Reminded me of several discussions I've had over the past few months with employees in the Ohio University ticket office.

I guess it's all relative and one person's perspective.

I was looking at Phil Steele's 2012 preview.  Cincy isn't the only FBS program that has scheduled two FCS opponents.

Moreover, in looking at the non-conference schedules of BCS programs, Ohio's non-conf lineup of Penn State, New Mexico State, Marshall and Norfolk state looks comparable to those of Alabama, LSU, et al.

As in years past, about two-thirds of FBS schools have at least one FCS opponent on the schedule.

I was talking with some UC fans on another forum, and I think they had a respectable OOC opponent back out of a contract late and they had to scramble to find an opponent.

With all the conference re-shuffling, it isn't surprising if there were a lot of late schedule changes this year.

Fordham replaced TCU who went to the Big 12 after a brief stop in the Big East. Also, San Diego St. opted out of a game to play Washington and the Ohio St. game was moved to a later date. So Toledo and Delaware St. were added.

Shame we can't play UC in a home and home series every year instead of playing Delaware State and Norfolk State. Would be a great TV game. UC would be smart in playing Ohio State, Toledo, Miami, and Ohio each year.

thanks for the explanation on the cincy schedule. Kind of reminds me of 2006 when everyone was scrambling to find opponents for the next couple of years when the 12th game was added.
