If it makes the guy feel better, the buckeye is a member of the horsechestnut family.  There are few things more macho than horsechestnuts.  That's why stud fees are so high.

That letter has to be a joke, trying to poke fun at the Bible thumpers.  Nobody is that stupid.

We note pretty explicitly that it's satire.

Didn't mean to suggest otherwise...just wanted to throw it out there on the board.

There are not all that many dioecious plants. American Holly, Pussy Willows, and Ginko Biloba are ones that come to mind.

And, you don't want to be around a female ginkgo tree at the wrong time of the year.  When its seeds ripen they really stink.  One wag described the smell as a cross between rotten apricot and vomit.  Another described it as smelling like fresh dog shit.  For the record, the old asylum grounds in Athens had a very large, very old female ginkgo tree.  I believe that it only produces the stinky fruit when it is fertilized by a male ginkgo, though I'm not sure about this point. Therefore, being a bisexual tree like a buckeye can be a lot less malodorous than a single-sex tree like a ginkgo.  Bottom line: Buckeyes > Gingkos.   Now, just who are the Fighting Ginkgoes, anyway?

For two days I've waited for someone to be dirty-minded and tasteless enough to take the words right out of my fingers. No one has come forth. I'm shocked. Is BA.com become totally G-rated with no strings ("G" or otherwise) attached?! Or are we suddenly aware that the Buckeyes actually may do it -- in public -- if we tell them to "Go ... yourself"? (Administrator, please ban this low-life idiot forever! ... Oh yeah, then I say, Bring back MH55!)

L.C., I think you've just solved the problem for OSU.  To become tougher and not come across as a 'bi-sexual' plant, the school should simply change its name to the Ohio State Pussy Willows.  A PR extravaganza would likely follow.

I was thinking that, too, Finn. This could be their new mascot: Male Salix Discolor

Answers one of my questions as I've always thought Brutus was a rather androgynous character.
