I know this is not too exciting but as I've stated in other non exciting posts... "It's just one more step closer to the start of the season"

I think I saw somewhere that Trae Clark wasn't expected, but no Chris Murray or Mike Roberts on here either.

Kendric Smith is listed.

Yikes. No William Johnson either. So much for our all-time greatest recruiting class :(

Could one of our recruiting experts give us a rundown of freshmen that are not on the roster as well as their position and ideally their rating?

Ohio does have a Fr WR with the following from his profile;  "Took second at the 2012 United States Indoor meet in the 55-meter dash." Malik Rodriguez. From Sebastian Smith's profile: " Was named MVP of the state championship after he hauled in four receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown on offense and 10 tackles on defense." Lots more to like from all those listed.  I really like OL group.  Ohio will not be pushed around for the foreseeable future.  Will be doing the pushing instead.  Not worried about those not listed, just really like who is there.

I figured Clark was gone, but this stinks that the two biggest WR threats we were counting on didn't show up.  The ACT test is not that difficult guys.

Speak for yourself. The junior colleges are full of athletes who apparently find it very difficult.

Trae Clark was rated 3 stars by Scout, 3 stars/5.6 by Rivals, 83 by 247 sports, and 4.5 (not rated) by ESPN. He was considered the prize of the recruiting class, and turned down 11 BCS schools to accept Ohio, but eligibility was always a question.

Mike Roberts was rated 2 stars by Scout, 3 stars/5.5 by Rivals, 7.4 by ESPN, and 80 by 247. He was big, fast, and could catch the ball. He might have been a TE or a WR. He turned down 5 BCS schools to accept Ohio.  He definitely was an eye catcher on film.

Chris Murray was rated 2 stars by Scout, 3 stars/5.6 by Rivals, 80 by 247 Sports, and 4.5 (unrated) by ESPN. He was the highest ranked of the many WR in the class. He turned down 4 BCS offers to accept Ohio.

William Johnson was an OLB/S from California. He was rated 2 stars by scout, 2 stars/5.2 by rivals, and was unrated by ESPN and 247Sports. Basically those are minimal or non-ratings. He had 4 Pac-10 offers, but there were questions about his eligibility, which is, I suppose, why the rating services didn't rate him.

Matt Amicone was going to walkon as a kicker. Perhaps he is greyshirting, as Venham did, and will appear in the Spring. It is also possible that Yazdani has sewn up the the job of replacing Weller, and there is no need for another walkon.

This was a big hit to the incoming recruiting class as these were considered to be some of the prize recruits. Nevertheless, everyone in the class looked pretty solid, so I'm sure it will still be a good class. Perhaps after a year or two in JUCO we will yet see these players. There are several players on the team that did not qualify originally, but returned after a visit to JUCO. I'm not giving up on any of them just yet.

If they had passed it then they would have signed with someone else!

Perhaps. But it's also possible that they could have passed it after signing. They have one or two more shots at the ACT after the signing date, and if they pass, they can still become eligible.

There are other reasons why a player might not show besides qualifying, by the way. Sometimes players do not show because they are injured, and by waiting to appear on the roster they preserve their 5 years to play 4.  Others change their mind, and decide to go to a Division II school or something, closer to home.

When they do fail to qualify, Ohio doesn't just dump them. They help them get placed with a Juco with a good academic program, and then work with them to come to Ohio after gaining eligibility. Some players never become eligilble. Some do, but go elsewhere. Others end up at Ohio, usually with 3 to play 3, and when that happens, they really don't miss much.

Recent players that went that were originally no-shows, but returned, include Steven Jackson (was an illness, I think), Omar Leftwich, Octavious Leftwich, Kadre Pinder (though he didn't stay long), Tim Edmond, and Troy Hill (I think his was an injury). My expectation is that we will will see at least a couple of these 4 missing players at some point in the future.

We have a lot of TE's this year.
Are we looking to make this position more of the offense ie. The N.E.Patriots?

IMHO the TE has been a huge part of the offense.  Most of the better teams have a D lineman or two worthy of double teaming. If TT has a good game it is likely the TEs were a big part of it, even if they don't have a catch.

Grabbing on L.C.'s analysis of the no-shows (how some come back to help us later):  Were any of these guys realistically expected to help us this year?  Maybe a bit.  But it's the vets who have to be vastly the major part, hopefully with redshirts really coming on.

I think that we have enough at receiver, though it would be nice to have two young men grab it and make their mark as Taylor and Lavon and others have done.
