Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.  I know that the apparel contract was up after last school year, but have we signed with Russell or anyone yet?

They are taking bids from others including Russell.  I am under the impression that they will decide at the end of this month.  So maybe we will know by Friday...

I'm guessing they will sign with Russell again.

Whoever we sign with, I hope they make their sideline gear more available to us bumpkins to buy at CBS or other fine local retailers.

Ok, thanks for your help guys, I knew they were accepting bids, but hadn't heard anything.  Also, I know that the availability of Sideline apparel was pretty much non-existant at the bookstores, but I was able to but a sideline jacket and polo at Dunham's on East State back in 2010, so you might want to check there.  I wasn't able to make it over there this past season, so I can't tell you whether or not they had it then as well.

Fun fact: Russell sponsored the new "The Amazing Spider-Man" movie. The basketball team shown in the movie sported Russell jerseys. Maybe they are going to improve the brand image soon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Warren Buffet the owner of Russell brands?

On this board, people will correct you even if you're not wrong!

I think that Russell is part of Fruit of the Loom family. For what that is worth.

It is now the Russell Athletic Bowl instead of The Champs Sports Bowl at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando... must be doing something right, beside Ohio.

Russell is owned by Fruit of the Loom, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, so yes, you're all correct.

"Rumor around campus is that Russell has been awarded the contract again. I have nothing to back that up though.

It sounds like Russell has done a good job for the athletic department, and the black jerseys were provided at no cost. Meanwhile the athletic department has done a good job for Russell, too. The value of the video showing the kids reaction to the black jerseys has to be huge, with over 300,000 views now. Now if Russell can find a way to satisfy the fans desire for gear, I think everyone would be happy. It sounds like Russell gets its profit from selling the sideline gear to the coaches, so making that same gear available for purchase to fans seems like a no-brainer.

I see that we've reached "big fish in a small pond" status. And apparently it has perks. Like I've mentioned in another thread, Russell has has started to sponsored new movies. So I believe them when they say they want to grow. And OHIO Can be their main vessel, Business_Cat approves

Since Russell has taken over the Champs bowl game sponsorship, is there a chance for a "Russell" team like the Bobcats to have a favored status should the customary tie-ins not work?

Perhaps a step-up in a bowl game is in OUr future?

I own an Ohio Russell "performance" polo (moisture wicking fabric) and I prefer it to a Nike one I have from my company, an Adidas Ohio one I have, and the Under Armor one I had from a golf outing before too.

I've got no problem resigning with Russell if they are going to provide the teams the most equipment . My only gripe with them is with their selection of official merchandise for fans. Hopefully now that we've reached "big fish" status with them, and since they are trying to become a bigger player in the college scene, they will provide better gear for fans.

All I want are replica football/basketball jerseys that look like the real thing. The customized black ones were great, but they were a little out of my price range as a student. Plus, I don't want to wear an authentic football jersey around since they fit so weirdly without pads. Just make a replica jersey that looks like the real thing, but fits like a t-shirt, and sell it for under $100. Something that Nike, Adidas and Under Armor provide for their teams.

Good for Russell for valuing us.  And good on us for solid student-athletes who perform, making us attractive in all ways.

It was mentioned in one of the articles above that GT, OHIO and CSU were wearing Russell this year.  I think CSU may be moving on to another supplier.   I've heard Russell will have GT debut a new design that is supposed to be something special.. They will not  leak the design until GT's opening game.

This could have been why OHIO's deal was better this time around.

I think Russell also does the entire SWAC and the Canadian League as well as many if not all of the Arena leagues.

There was little in the way of replicas when Adidas was still the sponsor. As demand increases, so will supply.
