Thanks to Pataskala! He notes that CBSsports.com Jerry Palm's prognosis for Bowl Games has been updated as of July 30 ... and he predicts we will be headed back to Mobile.

I can't find anything about his bowl picks, but i did find his ranking of all teams. His picks are, umm, unusual. He has Oklahoma State at #1, he has Ohio at #38, but they aren't the top MAC team, which goes to NIU at #26, followed by Toledo at #32. Then he has Miami at #57, and Ohio State at #58. When was the last time 4 MAC teams were ahead of Ohio State in any football poll?

L.C., the word this in my original post should be a click-through to the bowl predictions. In case it doesn't work, here's the link: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions.

Yeah, I thought that was odd when I saw it back in March.  Not only does he not have Ohio going to a bowl, he has two teams from the West being the 1-2 picks for bowls (NIU at Pizza and Toledo at Godaddy).  Seems to me that Mobile would want the MAC East champ if they lose the MAC title game.

I think Fiami will improve this year, and their biggest asset is two solid, tested QBs.  But they still have problems at a lot of other positions, and with O$U, Boise and Cincy on their OOC schedule, they'll probably have to go 6-2 in the MAC to go bowling.  Not impossible; except for Ohio they don't have a MAC team that had a winning record last season and the three toughest MAC teams on their schedule (Ohio, BGSUcks and BSU) are home games.  They win two or three of those and they could win 6 or 7 in the conf.  Big "ifs" tho.

Thanks, cat4ever. After having the highest winning percentage in the bowls last year, I think there is a reasonable chance that the MAC goes to more than 3 bowls this year, especially with certain teams unable to go to bowls. The pick, though, is a good reminder that it's always possible for Ohio to end up in the ditch, as it were.

Since Mobile does it for tourism, Mobile will probably want whichever team brings the most fans, and if not that, whichever team brings the least trouble and the most fun.

Those appear to be his postseason rankings from last year. That's why each team has a record and bowl result.

Fiami has gone to GMAC/Godaddy twice.  They went two years ago and won 35-21 over MTSU while helping to draw 38,000.  And in 2003 they beat L'ville 49-28 before 40,000.  In 2005 Toledo (the team Palm picked to go) beat UTEP 45-13 before 35,000.  My guess would be that if Pizza could choose between NIU and Toledo, they'd take Toledo for the local draw.  If the competition is an AQ school, Toledo usually draws 40,000+ to Detroit.  If not, they'd still likely get 30,000+ without an AQ.

Why would anyone care about bowl picks when we haven't even played one down of football? We'll know something at about week 6.

It's an indication of how sports writers view the MAC races.  For some reason he picked Fiami (at least in March) to win the East this season, but didn't explain why.  I don't put too much stock in it either, and in fact the only bowl predictions that matter are the ones that come down after the conference championships are played.  These guys are paid to file stories and there isn't much college football to write about in March, outside of the scandals that everybody else writes about.  He had one wrong; he picked Penn St to go to a bowl.  As of today, though, he's updated his list and now has Ohio playing FIU in Mobile.  He has five other MAC teams going to bowls: Fiami vs. ND in the Military; NIU vs. La-Monroe in the Pizza; Toledo vs. Ark St in New Orleans; BGSUcks vs. South. Miss in Beef O'Brady's; and WMU vs. La Tech in Potato.

This team the the potential to be a great team. I think a MAC title is our destiny this year. This should be a very exciting year in football. Can this team go undefeated should be the title of this thread? I think Frank and the boys will be the story on September 1, not Penn State.  After the emotion wears off for Penn State in the second quarter the Bobcats will step on the gas and make a statement that they are a legit top 25 team.
