At the Iowa State game noticed an area under construction on the student side. Student side between the home stands and victory hill. I asked someone what they were building and the response I had was building a deck for the food trucks. That doesn't make any sense since a food truck would invariably be too much weight for a food truck.

Any guesses on this one?

I heard rumors of a petting zoo.

Luxury boxes make sense for the out of town alumni fans w/ sleeping quarters and kitchenettes.
Student side is sure to be impressive and class of the MAC !

If it's still there this weekend, can someone take a picture of it? I want to play the speculation guessing game too.

A picture of the stadium that better shows the section. Its the grassy wedge between the student section and victory hill in this picture.

First noticed it from the home side and thought it was a deck railing but it was under construction and the deck railing could be temporary. The area had supports poured in to handle loads.

I did take pictures when down there but I found the section on a video from the Iowa St game. 20 second to 25 second mark is the best shot I could find.

For some reason when I play this, only the audio plays and not the video. I'll try it again tomorrow. I do have a good internet connection, so it must be on ESPN's end.

I always thought that space was being held out there for our eventual acceptance into the BIG18 and we need to expand the stands? No?

Side note... why don't we ever use the concrete steps behind the goal post?

I think in my day the band sat back there, but now it just sits vacant, aside from various security guards. Feel like we need to put a small hockey fence down there and just expand the "party deck". Let kids, fans, whomever sit down there. Why not?

At Iowa State a couple of fans were sitting on the concrete steps. I was tempted to walk down them but decided not to. For the university I guess its a question of what looks better. They've tried banners in that section before but now don't have one.

The trend since the 90's is to make each addition a cosmetic and functional one first while shoehorning in some additional capacity. For example a student athlete cafeteria behind the student stands to serve as a base for a second level. The infrastructure is already there with the concessions at that location and the lot behind there would be easy access for delivery trucks. Upgraded concessions for the student side as part of the project.

I believe it is a pad for a food truck pavilion.

It will be interesting to see how that turns out. They could resurface the whole area. The concrete footers might be for lighting.
