I haven't broken out the ruler yet (that'll happen tonight when I get home) but we probably have the biggest "north-south" distance of any of the opening week games and might have the greatest total distance too.

Few things stand out to me on this.  First off, I love that on the weakling to powerhouse scale, we are on the same plane as Penn State and Baylor (the home of last year's Heisman winner).  We are ahead of every MAC team, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Oregon State. 

As for how admirable we are, our cup nearly runneth over.  Only five schools are ahead of us, all with stellar reputations as institutions: Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Air Force and Rice.  To be equal to Army and ahead of Northwestern is pretty impressive.

My biggest disagreement with the chart is where they placed Notre Dame in terms of a powerhouse.  They should not be ahead of Auburn (just a year removed from a national championship), Clemson (defending ACC champion), Texas, Florida, and TCU.

The left-right placements are clearly stated to be based on projected strength this year, but based on last year or the year before that. I don't think Notre Dame will be the 25th or so best team in the country this season, but that is independent of past years preformances.

Not to rain on the parade, but wasn't it just last year that we had a player go berserk on Court St., hurling bricks at men, women and babies (ok maybe not babies).

And it certainly wasn't THAT long ago that a certain player took a little drive down Court St. that didn't go so well, just hours after the spring game.

Could it be that we have a sterling reputation because these guys haven't done the leg work?

I believe there was something that came out when PSU started their troubles stating that we were one of the few DI-A schools that had never had any allegations of inappropriate practices and that we had virtually a clean slate in terms of sanctions/violations.

Kind of surprised to see NIU and Cincinnati on the left side. NIU could arguably be better than us and it wasn't that long ago that UC was dominating the Big East.
