From truth is stranger than fiction.....the Penn State band will no longer play the Neil Diamond hit  "Sweet Caroline" at football games.

Their reasoning....they say the words "touching you...touching me" reminds people too much of the Sandusky case.

No I'm not making this up.

My bad for saying Kent State on my original post....what wuz i thinkin.

Do you mean Kent State or Penn State? Don't really see the connection here to the Flashes. If it is actually Kent State, that's being ULTRA sensitive!!

Now I'm reading in an LA Times article that the university is offering a different explanation for the change in the play list:

“Absolutely no song changes were made based on lyrics,” university spokesman David La Torre said. “This song has come up on the list in recent years because it happens to be played in so many other professional and collegiate venues and has no real origination here at Penn State.”

I'm biting my tongue so much that I may have to go to emergi-care.

I actually agree with that statement (even if it is a lie); Penn State for so long had ties to New England it seemed, being in the big 10 they are playing in a Midwest Conference. I am guessing Bill O'Brien said he was sick of hearing that Fenway song.

My wife falls into the former group.  For our first date in 1986, she was thrilled that I purchased tickets to see Neil in concert, but surprised at how ragged he looked.  And she had never heard him sing "The Needle and the Damage Done" before.  Still married her...eventually.

"Rational untruth" is what it might be called -- the work of people who figure logical, benign explanations for actions that really are taken for other reasons. Who can dispute the explanation they have given? As you point out, Bert, it makes some sense.

Nah . . . SBH means Neal Peart, of his favorite 1970 rock band.

He actually means Niall, not Neal.  I have it on good authority both SBH and his wife love Niall Horan and his band One Direction.

When I read his post I broke out laughing .... IF Neil Diamond ever did Needle and the Damage Done I'd be beyond SHOCKED. He had to mean Neil Young.

Man I really f-ed this thread up by starting with KSU instead of PSU......my wife and I were talking about Joe Walsh and his attending Kent State....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I got a chuckle out of the Neil Young/Neil Diamond stuff....in my head I imagined Neil Diamond singing "Cinnamon Girl".

Neil Armstrong dies, Neil Diamond banned....both attributed to Neil Young.

Out of the blue and into the black, indeed....

Also, we need a Neil Young 110 show.
