Other than taking OHIO this week I would definately take Buffalo +37.5. While this game will not be close 37.5 points is an awful lot for the 1st game of the season. I might also take BG +29.

I like WMU (and us) to both win and cover, BG and Buffalo to cover (thats a lot of points being offered up for teams with medicore/unproven offenses), and MAYBE for Akron to cover. God help UCONN if they don't cover. I don't know if Toledo covers, but bet the over.

I like Akron to cover at home. Akron may not be great this year, but is there any way they are not vastly improved from the first snap?  Is UCF supposed to be really good?

I also like Ohio and Western to cover.  Buffalo's strength is on the ground, it would be hard for them to lose by 37.

Yes, I expect them to give Ohio State all they can handle.

Stupid question: What is the difference between the plus vs minus on these games? In other words, what's the difference between Akron +23.5 versus UCF -23.5?

+ means you're getting points and - means you're giving points. So if Akron loses 33-10 you would add 23.5 points to their score and they would win 33.5-33 for point spread purposes. Or, subtract 23.5 points from UCF's score and they would lose 10-9.5 for point spread purposes.

Thanks, but I don't get what difference that makes? It's the same outcome either way.

Normally when a team has a new coach, things get worse before they get better. That is particularly true when the departed coach was a good coach. Therefore I would be leery of Toledo early in the season. The exception, however, is then the departed coach was really bad. Akron has real coaches, now. The new coaches may not have a lot of talent to work with, but expect the coaches to at least have them lined up right. I look for Akron to cover - not win, but least play better than last year.

Its typically written as being normative to the home team, i.e. UCF @ Akron(+23). Were the game in Orlando, it'd be written Akron @ UCF(-23). It appears that the lines printed above were normative to MAC teams (e.g. OHIO(+6) @ Penn St) for non-conference matchups.

Gimme:
Kron with the points.
Eastern outright.
Central
Can't
UConn (I can't believe I'm picking UConn giving up 24.5, but I am....)
osu (Urbz not gonna take his foot off the pedal all season to build hype for next year)
OHIO outright.
Western with the points (but I wouldn't bet this game if I were actually putting money down).
Georgia
BUGS
NIU outright
Toledo outright.

Eh, 3 out of 5.....and the BallSU/EMU game was closer than the scoreboard indicated. My biggest failing was forgetting that Kron is still Kron, no matter how many head coaches are employed by the university.

Now, SATURDAY........that's the day to openly mock my picks. But I'll be too drunk celebrating the State College beatdown to care, so at least I'll have that going for me.

Not to mention a possible BCS buster if they can manage C-USA unscathed and their appeal goes through.

Actually, UCF was just hit with a postseason ban and Football and Basketball.  They're not making it to the C-USA Championship let alone a bowl game.  They're appealing the decisions right now, but I don't think it'll get overturned.

Hate me if you want.  I love my Bobcats but 6 points AT PSU with all the Reasons they have to win this game?   I think we play well but lose by 7-10.  Take PSU+6.

I agree with the WMU thing.  They could easily pull it off vs the Illini.

Not a points thing but  a gaming fan would not bet against Penn State's perfect streak of NEVER  having lost a home opener--that's just too long a string to bet against.  I guess Ohio would have that streak too if Ohio had opened against Temple most of these years like the Lions.
