Alan: I hope you know that Schaus (and Boeh before him) was simply following the administration's lead. Hub Burton told me years ago that the G&W Club was a thorn in the side of administrators for many years. Ping hated it and wanted it eliminated, as did Glidden. They said it was nothing more than a good-ole-boys club for people like Kenny Kerr and other locals who wanted to ingratiate themselves to the coaches. I certainly agree with the good-ole-boy part.
Interesting SBH. That might have been back then but that certainly wasn't the case the last 15 years. Lou, Joe, Jeff, myself and the board members at the end certainly weren't trying to ingratiate ourselves with anyone much less were we a part of the good old boys club. i know what you mean though because prior to 1997 when I joined the board I thought you had to "be somebody" to be a G&W member. In four short years when we grew
memberships from 550 to 920, we truly became an all inclusive club so any vestiges of gobc disappeared. It was a good ride. Now what I'm looking for is a good tailgate to join and contribute to. Gman's deal appears to be dead. Maybe that guy from WV will welcome all of the displaced former G&W members.
