some advice for Big Talkin Bill Belton- if you want to beat us 10 out of 10 times you'll need to do 2 things-

1. learn how to  not fumble
2. tell your linemen not to bother looking for their mouth piece until you master #1.

Geez, Bill, you could have said 9 out of 10 times.
Unfortunately you only got one game against us and your math/ logic failed you.

At least he didn't say the game ended too soon.

The 2008 Ohio team could have beaten that 2008 Ohio State team maybe 1 out of 10 times (And man were we close).

The 2009 Ohio team probably could have beaten that 2009 Tennessee team 3-4 times out of 10 (Again... we were so close)

Last year's team probably goes 5-5 with Rutgers.

But.

This year's Ohio team beat's this Penn State team 6-7 times out of 10.

This wasn't a fluke, this wasn't a few big plays that won it for us, this wasn't us clawing to just stay in the game and hoping not to make a mistake.  After the first quarter we punched them in the mouth and they quit.

Look at the yardage totals, Something like 400+ to 150 over the last three quarters.  Hell, we left 13 points on the board with special teams miscues alone... if anyone had bad breaks go their way, it was us!  When was the last time Matt Weller went 1-3?  When was the last time we had a punt blocked?

And oh yeah, our projected 3rd-4th round draft pick CB and probably our best overall player is on the sidelines in shorts and we're running a secondary of Freshmen and Sophomores out there.

Fact is, Ohio is a better team than Penn State, not just on that day, but overall.

Scoreboard.

It was so much more than the scoreboard though.  Ohio outgained Penn State by nearly 300 yards the last three quarters and they did it by going right at the supposed strength of the Nittany Lions.  We didn't even play particularly well and it could have been worse.

+1

Nailed it right on the head.

I did. I got a great picture of it and then, poof, it was gone. I did drive safely, but I would have liked to see the score up there for a few more minutes.

Care to share it? I'm looking for a high-res photo of it. I was taking a video of the last few seconds tick off the clock and by the time I was ready to take a photo of it, it was gone.

They also need to schedule us ten times.  I doubt we'll be returning to Unhappy Valley in the near future.  Once we beat an AQ team, we never seem to get a callback from them (see, e.g., Maryland, Pitt, Illinois).

The lack of "call back" in the case of Pitt I think has more to do with the identity of the current AD than the fact we beat them in Athens in 2005.  I'll fearlessly predict that we'll play them again once Pederson gets the axe in Pittsburgh.  That day seems to be getting closer all the time.  Let's see they've now had four football coaches in the last three years, I think it is.  That man really knows how to hire football and fire football coaches.  For that latter skill, we should be forever thankful.

Don't want to schedule them 10 times!  OU would win 10/10.  Take this to the bank...this years Pedd State team is the best they'll have for AT LEAST 10 years.

I also noticed, watching the replay of the game on ESPN3, that when Penn State was on offense, they talked about Penn State.  When Ohio was on offense, they talked about Penn State.

This.  Even after the game, all of the on-field interviews were with the blue and white.  I was screaming at my television "Hey ESPN, did you know that if there's a losing team, there must necessarily be a winning team?  Can you at least *mention* them?"  It continued on the post game shows.  The only one that even mentioned Ohio was an ESPNU halftime show - and they only did so because they're purposed with giving additional time to the smaller schools.

Looking at that last picture, the numbers say 14>24.  Is that supposed to be ironic considering the quote?

Well, I have a nice image of the scoreboard (and hi-res video of the last 10 second countdown of the game) but I simply cannot figure out how to load onto the post.  If you want the image, I will need advice how to do it. Or I can email it to someone.

It is natural for a player and a team to look inwardly for "oop-ses" that denied a victory -- particularly when you're a so-called "power-conference team" and the "L" got laid on you by a team from a relative weak-sister conference.

Funny that after the clock hit 0:00 and I'd quaffed the last of my several bottles of refreshment, I also was talking about the probabley outcome were the Bobcats and Nittany Lions to play a series of 10 games. I had OUr team winning seven or eight. Good grief, if we weren't experiencing (a) kicking-game woes and (b) a lack of any real video information about PSU going into the game, this game might have been an absolute blowout.

The (b) shortcoming clearly was corrected on the fly during the game ... and I sure hope OUr special-teams unit has worked its collective butt off this week, because we clearly demonstrated a shortcoming requiring correction.

I wish Bill Belton were in our rotation, because he'd be a nice complement to our players, and I like confidence, but his evaluation of what took place last Saturday was off the mark.
