The team knows two songs.  The band knows them, too.  It's time for the students and fans to LEARN THEM.  Wanna be a bigtime school.  Then EVERYONE MUST know these.

Would someone, please print these up, front and back, at 4 to 8 per page and pass them out in Peden:

"Stand Up and Cheer"

Stand up and cheer,
Cheer loud and long for old Ohio,
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest.

Our teams are fighting
And they are bound to win the fray.
We've got the team,
We've got the steam,
For this is old Ohio's day!
Rah! Rah! Rah!

"Alma Mater, Ohio"

Alma Mater, Ohio
Alma Mater, brave and fair!
Alma Mater, we hail thee,
For we own thy kindly care.

Alma Mater, Ohio
When we read thy story o'er,
We revere thee and cheer thee
As we sing thy praise once more

For many  of us who attended O.U. "back in the day",it will always be:

" Our boys are fighting "

I also don't reacall  ever signing the "Rah,Rah,Rah"

The band sings "our boys are fighting" as well, so you're not the only one!

Yes, and when I go to a women's game I substitute "girls" for "boys." I much prefer to be gender specific.

I'll be deep in the cold cold ground before I sing "our teams are fighting". Not unlike Granda Simpson's feelings on Missouri http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM3NSTbi4OQ

I've always sang "our boys are fighting"

...I also made it a point to learn the Alma Mater and the Fight Song the first month I was on campus. I didn't want to be the bumbling fool in the crowd who doesn't know the Fight Song (although, far too few Ohio students know it, as Monroe said. We need to change that!). I still sing it when I hear it on TV, or really any time I hear it at all (i.e. if I heard WKU or Montana or SE Missouri State playing THEIR version, I would still sing ours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrKkvGBHx6w)

...also, also, I don't recall "Rah, rah rah" on there, either.

Here's the version I learned.  It has two "rah rahs" not three and in different places than the Monroe version:

Stand Up and Cheer

Stand up and cheer,
Cheer long and loud for old Ohio,
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest,
Above the rest.

Our boys are fighting
And they are bound to win the fray.
We've got the team, Rah! Rah!
We've got the steam, Rah! Rah!
For this is old Ohio's day!

I think we can all agree, no matter how it is sung, it is awesome.

I go with this version.  But the first 'rah, rah' is replaced with "O H" and the second with "I O."

Interesting fact: you can slowly repeat "Alma mater, Ohio" in time and pitch with the band and no one can tell that you don't know the words.

Changing the fight song to  more socially correct lyrics always reminds me of Guidance Counselor Jeff Rosso on Freaks and Geeks adding "Boys (OR GIRLS!)" to Alice Cooper's "Eighteen"

That's the only version I ever learned.  Of course, I took Bluto's advice and drank heavily back then.

I enjoy the fun remarks here.  But the truth is that it's a shame how few know SUAC and Alma Mater.

The good news is we can change that.  I truly hope that everyone who posts here and reads these threads will take the lead on knowing and singing the words..  After all, we are the most faithful of the faithful.

Everyone's enjoying the branding and recognition/success of O H I O?  Knowing the words is a very important part of building that.

I refuse to recognize the SUAC lyric change to "our team is fighting." I learned it as "boys" or "girls" as the situation requires, and that's the way I'm going to sing it.

Also, you must include the "RAH RAH RAAH RAAH RAAAAH RAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!" before the O-H-I-O chant begins or it doesn't count.

The best way to spread Bobcat cheer is singing loud for all to hear!!!

As a member of the 110 a few years back.

We always sang

We've got the team, O-H
We've got the steam, I-O

What is all this RAH RAH nonsense?

All the best, Go Ohio!

I think the O-H, I-O in that context seems very contrived.  I like the old standard version better. Rah-Rah!

Now, this brings up a pet peeve of mine.  I've noticed that most of the old zone age folks when saying the O-H-I-O cheer at the very end say a loud "OHIO."  Most of the younguns just say something like "OHHHHHHHHH."   What the heck is that supposed to mean?
