Is this the week that the offense looks anything like it did last year? I get that Rourke is still recovering from his injury, but this offense is not really helping to win any games so far. We’re very fortunate that the defense is a top 5-10 defense up to now, but eventually our offense is going to have to do better than 15-20 points to win the MAC in my opinion.
So what I’m seeing is Rourke continues to improve based on his last game mostly
We’re not where we should be in running the ball. This is the deepest offensive unit I think and should be averaging over 4 yards per carry.
We’ve had injuries to receivers- wide receivers and tight ends and have have lost our biggest deep threats
from last year- Bostic by graduation and now Jones by injury. The wide receiver group is called our deepest into by some on here.
We’ve been involved with mostly low scoring games and are conservative in our play calling
Deep throws have been almost nonexistent
So I’m just wondering what the board thinks about our offensive woes or do you not care as long as we keep winning?
We're getting stuffed at the line because our QB - who last year could put 6 on your head at any moment - is not of ANY threat to throw it. WHY?! When they call runs, what percentage is a delayed handoff up the middle? 75%? And I'm being serious here. It has to be more than 50% hb dives. The whole offense is push the pile. It's not score points. It's baffling to watch.
I think you said it - the offense is conservative and boring and for what? For the most part, OU has played with a lead all season. Instead of putting points up they're playing scared, like they cannot wait to get off the field.
They're not even attempting to go for the big play. Everything is a 4 yard out to the TE. A 7 yard slant to Wigs or Cross. Have we had a single trick play this season? I mean, I'm not advocating for a WR to throw a bomb to the QB (We've done it before though) - but end arounds? A little PA? Mix in ANYTHING that opens up some run lanes? Some deep crossing routes? Something, anything to get the defense thinking.
Kurtis has more INT through 5 games than all of 2022. He's too talented to not have the entire playbook opened. He hurt his knee, not his arm. Spread it out.
What's the opinion then why no 2nd half offense?
Gutless, conservative football.
