My thoughts from the "family section" -  The crowd was huge, I was at the UConn game too and I think that games numbers were over inflated due to $5 tickets that were sold but not used.  I myself had four extra tickets that did not get used due to folks not being able to come.

The thing that surprized me (in a good way) was the LACK of folks taking off after the band at half time. Other then the row of band alums sitting in front of me (all of which smelled like they had been tailgating REALLY hard before the game) and a few with very small kids, there was very few walk out of our sections and those that left from the students area seemed to get replaced by folks from the hill.

It was a great night to be a Bobcat!

The Pitt game seemed more crowded to me.  I cannot imagine how frustrating it was to stand in that student entry line waiting to get in.  The stadium operations definitely needs to be addressed.  Concessions and restrooms are a real black eye on our gameday experience for the casual fan.  Thank goodness we have a strong product where it really counts, on the field.

We really should allow outside food vendors to set up under the corner stands like Kent does.  Restroom upgrades will cost a lot of money, but concessions could be fixed a lot easier.  I have grown weary of a sophomore from Trimple not being able to add the price of a box of popcorn and a bottle of water together without a calculator.  Those line move slower than Wal Mart when a lady writes a check after her all groceries have been bagged.

Seinfeld used to have a similar line as part of one of his routines.  He talked about waiting behind the old lady that waited until everything was rung up and bagged and THEN started looking for her money.  His line was something along the lines of "what, you thought it was going to be free today."

Agreed on the calculators.  Digital clocks ruined and continue to ruin math skills.

....or it might just be time to do away with the band day.  I'm sure the fans who wanted to the see the game and got turned away would probably be able to sit where the HS bands were.  The home opener the past couple of years has been a great draw for the students, and I'd guess a good number of them are freshmen.

Getting rid of band day is a solution, but what are the consequences?  How would that effect town/gown relations?  Do you think the merchants of Athens enjoyed the annual infusion of 1,200 turned lose on the town several hours before kickoff?  How do you replace the recruiting potential of this annual draw to campus?  What if you had nasty weather and an alternative entertainment attraction going on in town, would it be certain that students would still be standing in line to attend?  The Varsity Show in Columbus gets packed each year, mostly by these same high school bandies, might there be less enthusiasm to see the 110 if these young fans hadn't already gotten a dose of them earlier?  Lots of positives by having the bands there.

Not to mention the fact that band day is a great recruiting tool for future students. I bet there's a decent percentage (10%-20% just guessing?) of current 110 members who travelled to OHIO for band day when they were in High School.

I'm real glad to see such great support regardless if  it beat the Pitt game or not. But we shouldn't get too excited when many game tickets are $15, there are high school bands, many have family pack tickets at $4.50 each and there are 6000-7000/or whatever "free" student tickets. Lets see how we do when the single game tickets go up to $20 and $30 in the next 2 weeks and there aren't any bands except the 110. It seems to me that all the talk about a stadium expansion is a little premature, but if we do this more than 1 time a year it may be something to start discussing more seriously. Just where is the money going to come from? Monroe?

I like what some of the others have said about moving HS Band Day. Maybe move it to the I-AA game, maybe move it to a late (NON-homecoming) saturday homegame, if we ever have another one of those. While interest increases moving into MAC play with a good team, as the weather gets colder, attendance tends to get lower.

Maybe make HS Band Day that clunker game we always seem to get stuck with on Black Friday.

I think that's because it was the first sellout we'd had in the newer, larger Peden.

It was NOTICIBLY different than any other crowd to that point.

UConn, to me, did not seem as crowded, and neither did Marshall... until I got up to stretch my legs, and went for a walk around Peden.

If the lines at concessions on Saturday were any indication, this was cleary one of the largest crowds we've ever had.

I 'm guessing the band day is a pretty strong recruiting tool for the 110. Maybe moving to the FCS game might be a better idea.

as for concession stands I say invite the burrito buggy and co down and let them set up on the curb. Support local businesses AND give visitors a classic Athens experience.

One of the reasons band day is so early is that later in the year, band competitions are held on Saturdays.

Yeah....concessions were sad......ran out of diet pepsi and got it back while I was still in line.

Presley said earlier in this thread Pitt was a crazed mob.....first game since the 60's where I felt like it was a real football game.....Sat was great....just a little docile for my tastes.

I wasn't saying the band day was a bad thing...maybe just not the first week when we seem to get the largest student turnout.

One thing this year seemed to be the number of bands.  When I was there, they'd get like 6-9 bands, and this year they had TWENTY ONE, and its obvious from the pictures that there were a TON of band kids compared to usual. If they reel it back in, then we won't tie up such a large number of seats and can still have it on any non-marquee day.

Why would you scale back Band Day?

That's 21 schools that are utilizing an academic and extracurricular program that emulates Ohio's.

Why would you ever let them go back to the Dark Side.

Think about this: Many of us have never seen Peden so engaged, and half a grandstand were disinterested outsiders? Mind numbing how far we've come.

Now if we can only get rid of that blow up Bobcat head that the team runs out of. It was cool for a while, now it just looks tacky.
