I know it just started, but man, this is some bad football! Not a terrible crowd for a Wednesday though.

Lack of scoring is killing the MAC's PR.  People turn into MACtion to see points!

they must have a microphone right in front of the cheerleaders. they are louder than the announcers.

Steinbrecher goes into the locker rooms at the half Eddie Albert from The Longest Yard style and tells both defenses that they start giving up points or they're going to be forced to transfer to Eastern Michigan.

I was about to say that we may more to worry about with Kent than Buffalo this year, but then the Beefs scored a TD on a Hail Mary at the end of the half -- thanks in no small part to at least three Kent penalties on the final drive.  Wouldn't mind if Buffalo wins this one.  Looking waaaaaaaaaay down the road, I'd rather not have that last game at Kent mean anything more than going unbeaten in the regular season.  The 2010 game makes me wary of the Kent game this season.

After watching Zordich and Keith, can't tell you how thankful I am for Tettleton.

Coach Quinn, Riverboat Gambler going for it on 4th and 10 in his own end down none with 8 minutes to go. This has become unwatchable.

I'm going to sound like one of those big conference jerk-wads that make my blood boil but these two teams look really bad, Tettleton is light years ahead of these QBs. .

Roosevelt Nix shouldn't get a vote for anything but for being stupid.  Three offside penalties, one that led to the Bulls score and another that kept a drive alive.  How many penalties does Kent have anyway?

These teams are  lousy.   OUr guys should be able to slow the rushes down--it doesn't look like either QB has time to set and throw.  OUr DB's and LB's should get about 5 picks with Zordich tossing, he'd be holding for extra points at most other MAC schools.

Kent's new QB reminds me a bit of Boo Jackson, I guess it is the hair and the chest protector.

Mack should have transferred to some power, it looks like he could play anywhere.  Ohio will have to have a plan to keep him from taking over the game on defense.

Agree.

Plus, that line reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Homer gets frisky with Marge.

"Marge, I've been watching women's volleyball on ESPN..."

I'm staying off the "change conferences" threads for a reason.  But this TV showcase tonight is illustration 1A why that when the opportunity presents itself, we got to be ready to move if we ever want to be anybody.

#1  Imagine being a friend of an OHIO sports fanatic who invites you to games saying how great they are, you tune into this and then quickly justify why you always have other commitments that don't allow you to attend.  Honestly, MAC home opener, ESPN and it looked like a bad high school crowd.  Camera guys did their best to not show the crowd, but they just can't avoid it on punts, kickoffs, etc...

#2  Imagine watching as a recruit tonight.  You have an offer from OHIO, considering a visit, you read all the hype about OHIO football and then you watch this game.  If you have offers from bigger conferences, do you even want to make that visit thinking this is the atmosphere you'll be playing in.

#3  AP and Coaches Poll voting members.  You see OHIO plays one of these two teams; you pull out your ballot to vote and see OHIO just played them; your memory bounces back to watching this game a few weeks ago and you suddenly give what hopefully is a win very little credence.

#4 Respect from the general public.  I remember getting defensive when a friend of mine called watching MAC games on ESPN "like watching a junior high game."   I flashed back to that comment as I was watching tonight and thought his point of view was accurate.  That was Bush League and hard to watch.  Unfortunately, when you ask a casual fan to name teams in the MAC, they typically answer Miami, OHIO, Akron and these two teams.

Realize I'm overreacting and last years games were high scoring and more entertaining--but this was one illustration as to why I would never get content with the MAC.

I was hoping that these two MAC teams would put on a good show.  We now know that both teams do not have a QB.  Buffalo has no running game.  Oliver was not impressive and when he was injured the back-ups offered very little.  Zorich was terrible.

Offense
Fisher is Kent's best QB, but offers very little. Receivers are not very good in the middle, but sideline cuts they were better. Durant is impressive when he wants to run and Archer is very quick.  He likes to run E/W, but does have the capability to cut quickly N/S.

Defense

Nix was not that impressive tonight( 3 big penalties).  I am sure that he has the capabilities to rush, but really did not demonstrate alot tonight.  Kent's DB's are good, but Zorich's performance helped them.

Beefs Mack is one hell of a good FB athlete at LB.  Sure tackler with good reads.  Very impressive. He makes their defense.

I really don't think that either team's defense can contain our offense.  Both defenses need to get better.

Over all I would give Kent C+ and Buffalo D. Very poor showing by two upcoming MAC teams who feel they can compete for East Championship.

There's a reason why Ohio is the only team plays 4 weekday games in November for MACtion and most other teams play just 1 or 2. The game tonight only reflects poorly on us if we should lose to one of these teams this year. (we didn't think it would happen last year but it did)

OUr 2 home MACtion home games are critical, barring an upset we should be sneaking into the top 25 and these games will draw some attention. We need to not only win, but win big. That means no slow starts and no letting off the gas pedal in the second half.

The Blackout is planned for BGSU who will probably wear their storm trooper whites, I think we should have a Green out the week before against EMU. Someone much more articulate than myself should also write an open letter in the Post to students and fans urging them to attend these games in full force and stay till the end even if its a blow out. If our mojo is still running high then I think they'll understand the importance of presenting a packed Peden to a national audience.

I'm getting ahead of myself though, but its exciting to think about.

36, I think you are referring to Durham ... who is a bull ... but he's a Flash and they were playing the Bulls, so I guess "bull Durham" would be a confusing moniker on this night. I wish that young man was dressing out in Green and White. He is indeed "a serious load."

Yup you're right...Not sure where I got Durant from...Thanks!

Watching that game though really brought me to a new level of appreciation for OUr program top to bottom.  I watched Cal last weekend as for that particular weekend they were my second favorite team and it hit hard just how close Buffalo had been to breaking through.  I don't know enough about their program to say for sure, but it sure seems like they had a good stretch ahead before seeing Turner Gill jump ship and having Maynard transfer to Cal as a result.

Point being, sustained success at this level is so tough to orchestrate.  I am thankful beyond expression for President McDavis' foresight and unwavering pursuit as well as AD Schaus' leadershi.

It really hit home for me the other day...I was listening to a college football talk show and they were discussing how critical it was for everyone involved to be all in.  It's so true and it's so obvious we have that...
