Backup QB-turned-TE Paul Jones leaves Penn St "for personal reasons" after being dropped to #3 on the QB depth chart.  Don't see the usual "we wish him well" quote.  

Phil could've gone this route after he transferred to Ohio as a QB but T2 became #1.  Instead, he stayed and was a real contributor as WR first and QB second.  Thanks, Phil, for being a team player.

I like Bates too but isn't that essentially the exact same thing he did at Iowa State when they pushed him to back up QB and then to WR?

Pretty much exactly the same.

Very few players go ahead and transfer twice. Bates basically either had the options of sucking it up, or quitting football altogether. Yes, technically, he could have transferred, but it would just be a mess.
