Was just taking a look at the Zippos message board site and for some reason they have the
impression they belong in the Big East! I know they got to the MAC title game a few years back?
Must be a good herbal program going on in Summit County!!

I was one of about 7,000 at their game yesterday.  Yeah, that's exactly what the Big East is looking for.

7000, that win over morgan state helped them double the crowd since I was there the first game.

They're about as qualified as Temps was.  They haven't beaten a MAC team that had a winning record in years.

After reading through Akron's board, it's amazing to me how delusional their fans are. Not only do they think they deserve to be in the Big (L)east, one of their fans actually thinks they outdraw Miami. Not Miami (OH), they're talking The U.

WHAT?

At least this Zips fan has a good head on his shoulder:

No offense but we might want to think about drawing more than 8,211 on a beautiful September day before we start talking Big East.

it is difficult to recall very many victories by the zips over losing mac teams in the last couple of years.

In their thread about the refs in yesterday's game (they "got screwed by the refs" in their loss to miami), they actually say that CUSA is better than the MAC. Seriously, after reading through their boards, i am ashamed they are part of the MAC. I think there are weak points, sure, but the MAC is better now than CUSA.

I wish Akron would go to CUSA. They would fit right it! Not to mention it would pull their RPI down further that it already is. CUSA is dead last among FBS conferences with the Missouri Valley sneaking up from bedind!

They might not be that far off.  The Canes claimed 39,000 in their home opener and 38,000 for yesterday's game vs. NC State, but that would be true only if Sun Life Stadium holds 160,000.  They were lucky to have 15,000 butts in the seats, as shown in the videos from the game.  Had to be claiming tickets sold.  Their announced attendance has become one of the biggest jokes in college football.

Still, Akron needs to fill Infocision every game before they can even think about Big Least.

15,000 is still about double the amount of people Akron is drawing at the most.

The Canes play in a stadium roughly an hour from campus depending on traffic, and they aren't blessed with a large built-in student body or alumni base (its not widely known, but the University of Miami is a fairly small private school). They are very much a team that relies on bandwagon fans, and of late, there has been little of note on the field to fill the wagon.

Agreed. It's very much like Duke in that regard.   And just like Duke has a very small footprint among fans in North Carolina,  Miami plays a distant second fiddle to Florida even in the southern part of the state.   Playing in Sun Life is a recipe for attendance nightmares.   i went to the 2002 Orange Bowl and we stayed in downtown Miami and it took forever to get there.  Imagine what our student attendance would be if our games were played in Parkersburg.

Darn, I clicked on this and thought it was true.  I can't think of a more fitting rock to attach to the sinking ship that is the Big East than Akron.  Well, now that the Temple rock has already been attached.

moving from the dump site by the soap box derby track to the palace on campus hasn't seemed to matter with Akron students.
