i watched casually as the bobcats beat the nittany lions this year. i noticed that kid blakenship reminded of a kid named ryan brewer that played for the gamecocks. tough as nails hard ass kid and was a mr football in ohio . in fact he aided greatly 10 years ago when we beat osu two years in a row at the outback bowl. if it were up to me,, id recruit the hell out of those type kids,, often deemed not fast enough for the bigg schools. ive seen what a kid like that can do on the big stage. the mac is loaded with these type players. ive adopted the bobcats,, so kick ass my friends,, youre my mac squad! beat umasss

I often say, "I love the Bobcats", but I don't know if I could say, "I love the cocks"? Though I usually root for the Gamecocks cause I kind of think they're cool, and I don't feel they get the respect they deserve.

I remember Ryan Brewer who helped drive the last couple of nails into John Cooper's coffin!

My favorite teacher at Ohio was my real estate professor....  Good teacher and a funny guy, his daughter was a cheerleader at South Carolina.  Like any father, he had some trouble watching his daughter hold up "Go Cocks" signs at games.  He still went to games and cheered for the Gamecocks though... Credit to him.

Also remember Ryan Brewer getting back at the home state team that shunned him.

Coached by Lou Holtz, if I remember correctly.

Always thought that S. Carolina and Oregon State should play every year.  Would like to see how the announcers would handle that.

I was somewhat of a Gamecocks fan when Joe Morrison was their coach.  I was a big fan of his when I was growing up and got to meet him once.  In the off-season (back when pro footballers actually needed off-season jobs) he was in community relations for the Ford plant in Lima.  I had a cousin who worked there and brought him to speak at a community organization's meeting in my home town.  He really helped rebuild the football program at S. Carolina.  I don't care for Spurrier much and was glad he failed with the Redskins, in part because I hate the Redskins.  I'll sometimes root for S. Carolina, depending on the opposition.

Brewer was from Troy I believe. Loved the day they beat OSU in that game. Irony a kid ignored by the worthless Nuts hammers them in a bowl game.

spurrier has taken south carolina from an sec also ran to a contender. he has been able to keep our in state talent. we have signed the last 4 mr ootballs in carolina,,to all americans,,  marcus lattimore and jd clowney among them. i think south carolina has a chance to get to the sec championship.  the big test will come next sat when # 5 georgis comes in to play.  i wish spurrier would raid some out of ohio and western pa

For younger students and those new to Ohio Football, Chad Brinker in my opinion is one of the greatest Bobcat’s. In 2001 after four games including West Virginia and Iowa State, Chad was among the leaders in the country averaging 7.2 yards per carry when he was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst that was the size of a plumb that was wedged between his skull and brain. He had kept playing despite intense headaches before he told the team doctor.

Chad came back his senior season and volunteered to move the fullback and still ran for over 1,000 yards. http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/041205aaa.html

I grew up in Youngstown. That city will make you drink. We started early and drank often.

Oh yea, Chad Brinker, just another Valley boy who did well.  One of Martins Ferry's finest!

Had a client that went to S. Carolina in early 80's.  Talked about the greatest sign ever at a game.  S. Carolina playing Southern Cal (they played twice while he was there) - S. Cal favored.

An interesting tie between the two schools that you may not be aware of, gamecock, is that Ohio's Receivers coach is a long time Spurrier assistant, Dwayne Dixon. Dixon was the Recievers coach and Assistant Head Coach under Spurrier at Florida.

Corky,

Back when we were freshmen in Reed Hall, my dad and I attended a USC-Notre Dame football game in South Bend. Digger Phelps, at a pep rally my dad and I attended the night before the game in the Joyce Athletic and Convocation Center, told the ND student body, alumni and subway alumni that "we all know that no Trojan can hold back a cocky Irish."
