I hate to be a wet blanket but the way these injuries seem to be piling up is making me nervous. The only positives I see are in theory an easy schedule with the possible exception being Miami. From UMass to EMU on paper it isn't a super tough part of the schedule so hopefully guys can get well rested and the depth chart can get some in game experience. This would be beneficial for the BG, BSU, Kent, and hopefully (knock on wood) the Championship game. I guess just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

The off week right before Miami will come at a very good time. Hopefully, we can get some players healed up during that time...but first on to UMass.

Carlotta didn't play at all against Norfolk State. He's having a great year, but if he can't go, Lechner will take the LG spot. The only problem is that would normally make McQueen the backup at LT, and he's out, too. Meanwhile at LG, Pritchard is also out. Prior and Lechner may each have to go the distance, or we may see more of Seth Everhart, who took four snaps against Norfolk State at either LG or LT, not sure which. At the RG spot, Sam Johnson and Mike Lucas can handle the position if Herman is out, so I'm not worried there. Both have played very well when they have been in.

The WR position is getting scarier, though. Dovell and Sebastian Smith are out for the season already, and Futrell is out for the game. Meanwhile Foster, Cochran, Clark, and Landon Smith have also had injury issues, if I have it right.

Ugh - now Johnson out, too. They wanted to give Lucas more snaps, I guess he will get those.

The timing of these injuries is the same as last year.
Remember how many guys were carted off the field at the Rutgers game.
Then remember we lost that game as well as Ball State & Buffalo.
I do believe our depth is improved over last year so I do not think it will have that big of an impact.
Additionally these next 3 games before our bye week is against weaker competition then 3 out of our 1st 4 games.
Coach is always holding these injury reports close to the vest.

On the bright side, Clark is back to full health, and Landon Smith is expected back soon.

I would like to see the TE's getting more involved in the passing game, ie Patriots Style.

GO BOBCATS

Run the ball, stop the run, win the game. The Bobcats do more than run the ball but the more control they have of a game the more runs will be called. Oportunities for receivers will be on third downs and if they get someting thrown their way they better catch it.

Per Arkley twitter, Carlotta and Herman practicing again, Boykin near 100%, and Knight back, but Sam Johnson likely out for the season with a cracked ankle, and Futrell and Landon Smith are still out.

Geez - how many broken bones does that make? This again feels like an abnormal amount of injuries.  Seems like half our roster is down.  Every single game concerns me at this point.

.. combining this with Ted's list:

Out for the Season:
CB - Travis Carrie
CB - Jamil Shaw
WR - Mario Dovell
WR - Sebastian Smith
RG - Sam Johnson

Still out:
LG - Matt Pritchard - not sure how long
LT - Mike McQueen - not sure how long he's out
DE - Tremayne Scott - starter - out a few weeks
LB - AJ Grady
WR - Tyler Futrell - still out
WR - Landon Smith - still out

Back to practicing again:
CB - Ian Wells - only missed a few days, i think
QB - Tyler Tettleton - able to practice again
RB - Ryan Boykin - almost 100%
RG - Eric Herman - practicing again
LG - Vince Carlotta - practicing again
WR - Ryan Clark - back
TE - Tyler Knight - back

Depth is a good thing....

LMAO, +1

In defense of SBH, he has been pretty loyal to the program since 1980 driving a lot of miles to see lots of bad football before the arrival of Frank Solich.

Ultimately, it just don't matter.  Injured or not, guys are on the team and part of the effort.

We gonn' go OUt there with the yOUng men we have and play.  Just like we do every week.

The injuries include lots of broken bones, plus some muscle injuries related to hard hits, a pinched nerve, a hamstring, and a few sprains. If I had to guess I would said its a few more injuries than normal, related to the how physical the games have been so far, plus a larger than normal number of season ending broken bones and shoulder injuries. I'm guessing we'll see as many or more players coming back from injury now as we see getting new ones.

The amazing thing about our OL depth is we're redshirting one of our better guards, Mark Smith. Hopefully he can make it the entire year without having to play.

Of course you are both right..  In 2010 losing both Keller and LB had a telling impact on the season.  However, injuries ocurr each year, all teams have them and like bad weather, you have to play through.  I think Monroe believes injuries are like spilled milk, not worth tears, the team will persevere.  For me, I will pray for full recovery of the injured, but, I am with Monroe, if I have correctly expressed his thoughts.

Indeed.  I hate the injuries.  Would be great to have everyone available.  But injuries, unfortunately, hit every team.  The question then becomes about whether we can carry on.  We can...depth.

They do hit every team, but... seriously... it really seems like an abnormally large amount for Ohio... again.

DFC, I suspect it may seem that way because we are close to the information about OUr team and don't tune in to the nitty-gritty of other schools.

I think you have the injury list for WR pretty close.  The only exception is Cochran. I've not seen anything  listed for him to date.  We need him to step up and have a big game.. Seems he's been close on those deep routes every game but they just never seem to hook up... Maybe this will be the week.   We need these kind of guys to buy us quality time while the our go to guys heal up...  Solich needs to feel comfortable that he has the guys that can win us these next 4 games while the other heal for the bigger games.

Clark has been a great addition...

I have to wonder to what extent the higher injury rate is a result of the faster pace. Obviously if you bump from 60 plays to 90 plays you are going to have 50% more injuries. Perhaps it would be even more than that because you have people on both sides playing tired, and injuries are more likely when you are tired.

L.C., I'd say "+1" except this is insight way better than deserving of a mere "+1" ... so it's "ding-ding-ding: one chicken dinner!" Seriously, a really excellent thought.
