I'm not much of a gambler, so I don't look at this stuff all that much, but when I was curious about the odds in this game on Saturday I found one site that listed it as PSU favored by 3.  That seems very strange to me, since NU is undefeated and PSU, though improving, is still not the juggernaut of the past due to the sanctions.  I'm I misreading the odds here.  Can one of you guys or gals that know more about these sorts of things enlighten me and the other inquiring minds of BA?

Quietly Penn State has become a good, if not deep, football team. Ohio's win is going to look better and better as the year goes on.  Penn State could win eight games, which would be a minor miracle pulled off by Bill O'Brien. McGloin is starting to look like the quarterback we saw in the first quarter in the opener. I've been impressed.

You read that line right. Now, Penn State is down to 2.5 point favorites. Home teams usually get a 3 point bump, so oddsmakers view these teams as almost equal. If it was played at a neutral site, it would probably be a pick'em.

Northwestern is also notorious for starting out fast (4-0, 5-0, 5-1, etc.) and then slowly sliding as Big Ten play wears on. Vegas probably thinks that will happen again.

If I were a betting man, I'd run away from this one.  Penn State's defense has been smothering the last two games, but they were against Navy and Illinois.  The point above re: Northwestern is true too, good starts then level off in Big 10 play.  Penn State wins with the help of the home field, but I wouldn't bet on this one either way.

If I were a betting man, I'd be all over Penn State.  I think they'll win by at least a touchdown easy.

Consider that last week Penn State was getting 1.5 against the Illini. Was like taking candy from a baby.

Thanks guys; what you all say makes sense.  I just thought that NU would be favored.  But, this is one of those rare occasions that I want the odds makers to be right.  Go PSU!

Seems like those rare occasions where I'm rooting for the favorite are getting less rare this year with the need for ranked underdogs to lose to help the OHIO quest.

One site now says the odds are 15 in favor of Penn State.  How can this be?

Maybe you should try reading the link you posted!!!!!!! That article and Vegas line is years old! My 1st clue would be the schedule on the site and the fact a dead man is coaching the team! Vote for dumbest post of the year!

If I was a betting man, I would also be all over PSU.

Guilty as charged!  I looked at several sites with odds and they all were about 3 in favor of PSU.  Then I saw this one and obviously didn't read it closely enough.  My only excuse is it was late and I was sleepy .  .  .
