If CMU's coaching staff allowed a coach from another school onto their sidelines to steal signals of an opponent, that seems pretty bad to me.

It's, you know, cheating.

Somebodies sh** detector seems to have malfunctioned.

The sunglasses at a night game and footage of him blocking his face as plays came near him? Seems pretty telling to me.

Well, I looked at these photos myself and I'm not so sure it was mistaken identity. There is something *very* weird about this whole alleged scandal.

Then it shouldn't matter if everyone knows we are going to run it up the middle huh? When it's OHIO calling plays you marvel at how everyone knows whats coming and how bad it is. But when defending Michigan, it doesn't matter, because you still have to stop it,. Interesting

OK great but there are NCAA rules against in-person scouting, and rules against recording signals. And definitely rules against giving coaching credentials to a coach from an entirely different university.

What impact it had on their success is fairly irrelevant. To me these are pretty bold repeated deliberate NCAA violations.

Grambling and Southern used it in a game last year. Both teams said it was hugely successful.

Apparently, there were talks happening in the SEC, but they couldn't guarantee helmet safety and modifying helmets would void safety warranties and open up lawsuits down the line. There's no collective bargaining agreement or players union in college.

"Another concern among some SEC coaches wasn’t expressed publicly but has been suspected privately: Headsets would eliminate the ability to steal signals. The concept of stealing signals is an open secret in coaching, and some programs have elaborate operations. In a sport in which most rule changes benefit the offense, this could put the sides on the same level of an issue.

Told of that suspicion, David Shaw said it was comforting to hear someone admit that stealing signals exists. Bielema brought it up as well.

“There are certain places that put a premium on stealing signals, and that gets some people known as great play callers, but you can be a great play caller if you know what the other team is doing,” Shaw said. “For me, this is one of those balancing things. You might not be able to get all the information you want, now you have to call the game with some doubt and trust in your preparation and your players.”

Look at Michigan's record since they hired this guy and the "scouting" began.

Yep, and interesting that the one loss was an opponent they did not have the opportunity to really advance scout to steal the signs. like I tried to point out earlier, their are people here saying this doesn't matter because you still have to stop it. But then complain about our play calling because the defense knows what we are doing. It don't work both ways, saying it doesnt matter here, but it does there. Makes me shake my head.

One way it's potentially worse is that it appears to be orchestrated by the coaching staff, which might not be true of a spitballing pitcher. It also impacts every game and the whole defense. A more effective form of cheating potentially orchestrated at a high level.
