I know Hype was a high school qb but are we all assuming he was recruited to be a qb? He was Def a running qb, no? Great athlete that we could hopefully find a place to plug in?
There was a shot of Hype throwing a dart to someone in the practice facility. He looks like a QB to me.

I don't think we should rule out Hype from the QB battle.

Looking at the picture I assume is being painted, we have a battle between Hype, Timmy Carp, and maybe Poulos/Winters if they stick around. Levi Davis, I assume will be redshirted.

If Poulos/Winters are both gone, then yeah, look at a QB in the portal. If one of them stay, then we don't need another QB.

That's great. I can throw a dart in the practice facility, though. I'm not saying he does or doesn't have the skills. Maybe he'll be the best QB ever at Ohio. But the QB that emerges is the one that makes throws under pressure and handles the speed of live games.

His tape is electric. Which is why he got an offer from A&M. Maybe he lost those offers when he couldn't play his senior year due to California transfer rules, but he isn't some 0 star schlub throwing darts in shorts. Talent is there. Otherwise Deion Sanders wouldn't have tried to bring him in.

He had offers to Colorado, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Memphis…

If anything, OU told him that he could be a QB here when other places were potentially recruiting him elsewhere.
I suspect that the P5 schools stopped putting a lot of time in recruiting him when California's state high school athletic association ruled that he couldn't play for the high school he was attending his senior year. That is, I have heard, that you can't play for 4 different schools. Which is why some wonder how long he'll be here if he jumps around that much.

I'd vote for Davis Davis if he was in the poll.

It's been a LONG time since someone has started a game for OU and wasn't here the previous year.

I'm not sure what Carpenter is thinking, looking QB1 dead in the eyes, after not playing at all last season, that he's a good portal candidate. I'm sure he'll get some offers based on his size and speed, but playing time...? Headed for the Bad Advice Hall of Fame, kid.

Maybe he just wants to re-test the waters, but if the waters weren't warm when you came to OU in the first place... after not playing a year, he must be hoping Dayton reaches out. Of anyone, feels likely he would pull his name out and return. There aren't many QB1 jobs out there, and you have a chance at one. IF you want to play P4 football, prove it on the field.

Also... maybe Hype and Poulous are just better? He saw them in practice every day. Maybe he isn't confident he could beat either one out in spring and that would further lower his stock.

Anyway, All aboard the HYPE TRAIN.

Izzy likes Hype and has said so publicly so you may be correct in Carpenter thinking he may not beat out Hype.

The Carpenter news certainly changes my outlook on Hype. There's still a lot that could happen but I'll put a little stock in Hype now. Not much but a little.

How far away are we from seeing a starter named and every backup hitting the portal? Not saying it would happen here but I don't think its that crazy.

Indeed. Wild times in which we live.

I lost track of all this a while ago, but there is no longer a spring window right? This is it? So everyone has to make their assumptions now vs waiting to see where it shakes out.

Between Levi and Hype. Hype is pretty darn good too but would redshirt him. Levi has more experience running pistol (Olentangy runs the same offense). Wouldn't be surprised if Levi won it out.

Are we potentially overlooking the possibility of Parker coming back again? If the word is that he will likely win his appeal and would stay, it would certainly explain the Tim Carpenter, Papas, and Wither exit. Would he need to announce for the portal now even if still appealing for eligibility?

Also, let’s welcome Rickey Hunt Jr back with Brune leaving. Kid always played with heart and could be a great 1-2 punch with Mike Taylor.

RH Jr was very underwhelming in his time away.

Ended up 3rd string on a pretty bad MTSU team. His stats were paltry.

MTSU's 2nd string RB, the former track star...that's who we could use.

I’m not really going to judge him based off what the coaches for one of the worst teams in the country got out of him. Pretty reasonable to assume the coaches there suck.

What I have seen out of him here, perfectly reasonable to have him be the #2 back or a #3 that actually gets a few carries every game.

I'm waiting for the Hype hype to begin in earnest. I'll bet by the opening game in the fall we'll be comparing him to Joe Burrow. Either that, or we'll be comparing him to Bubba Lichtenberg.
