This is true, and a very pleasant surprise. I wonder what the recruits are being told about the head coaching situation. Perhaps, they now know a lot more about what going down than we do. The coaches had to have some prepared answer, because you know that the question was asked by these recruits and their parents before they signed on the dotted line.

Next step is to finalize who the permanent coach is so the portal can be raided.

As the bowl games end, some good players always become available.

The 2026 NCAA college football transfer portal will open on January 2, 2026, and close on January 16, 2026. This is a single, 15-day window that replaces the previous winter and spring windows. Athletes whose teams participate in the College Football Playoff will have an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their final game.

We definitely need to get this squared away quickly and have to imagine the players would prefer Houser.

I thought Coach Smith seemed like a really likable guy, I hope if he is indeed gone that whatever he did isn’t truly horrific and he’s able to learn from it and get past it. Still, we need to have the situation finalized before the portal window if at all possible.

Most of us have never been around practices enough to know but I always assumed that Albin and Solich were somewhere in the middle even if I didn't know exactly where. My guess is Grobe was pretty far toward the Carroll end. I got the feeling that coach Smith was way toward the extreme of the Carroll end.

Grobe at the Carroll end? At Grobe's invitation, I arrived at Peden to watch practice with him. While all other players were on the field, one was running laps. "What's with him?" I asked Grobe. He remained silent until the player got near enough to hear his reply, "He said a bad word." Grobe is also the coach who dismissed an all-conference DB (Dennis Fitzgerald) for fighting. And on the eve of a home game against Miami, he suspended Steve Hookfin for the game for a rules infraction.

Well, obviously I was wrong. I just guessed that because he usually seemed calm on the sideline and some of Smith's actions, like never yelling at players during the game if they made a mistake is the only reason I think that. For all I know, he could be a terror in practice.

He has the same practice demeanor you see in games. Handles the players very well IMO.

I don’t think Heimbach from the Burg has signed.

After watching last nights debacle I think Ryan Day may be calling him.
