Just my opinion but our desire to know does not supersede the persons rights in labor law and/or any other type of law.
And it's not even solely about Smith's rights. It's also about not creating legal exposure for the university and making sure they don't find themselves in breach of their contract with Smith.

I'm willing to agree with everything that has been said regarding this has been going on since at least October, but if that were the case, why would it be necessary to barge into a meeting, dismiss the other coaches so you can address the head coach? This indicates either new information or they just discovered the situation. Otherwise I would have thought a formal meeting would have been set up to inform him to take leave.

Is there a possibility that the previously mentioned divorce that is a matter of public knowledge has soured to the point that the wife has accused him of something that the university has to take seriously and investigate, whether it’s true or not? Would make a lot of sense with the timing of everything and how it’s going down.

Or they don’t want to explicitly name a 3rd party.

Hence my comment regarding labor law, which protects both sides. You literally want to split hairs on the most basics and easy to understand post. Sorry, better things to do than post an entire book like some.

I was agreeing with you and adding to your point, not trying to split hairs. Sorry, dude.

Absolutely nothing.

What has changed in the last 24 hours? What good does this news do? Other than make recruits second guess signing with OU tomorrow.
Sorry man, but "we should have let recruits sign with OU based on false pretenses" isn't a PR strategy. It's clear something's going to come out about Smith that ain't good, and that he's coached his last game for us.

Once the University knows that, you have to take action ahead of signing day, right? Isn't it dishonest not to?

You're prioritizing signing day success over being honest with the kids signing about who they'd be signing with.
I think there was a somewhat recent firing that did exactly this and it was before the transfer portal rules had changed so the recruits were essentially bound to their NLI and forced to enroll at the school for a coach they didn't get recruited by or want to play for. I'll see if I can dig something up on who that was.

In a somewhat related note, this happened to a larger degree with Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss before he was fired. They repeatedly lied to recruits about upcoming NCAA sanctions just so they could get the kids in the program. Freeze continued recruiting through the offseason but was fired in July of the following season.

But we’re missing a very big key piece of this…

They announced jack shit.
You're right, they (Ole Miss/Freeze) didn't say anything...at first. The NCAA did. In fact, the NCAA announced sanctions against Ole Miss a full year before in January of 2016. But all through 2016 and early 2017, Freeze and Ole Miss continually lied to recruits about the severity of those sanctions. They wanted to sign them, period.

I'm not sure how it would be good for Ohio to keep this under the rug just because they wanted to get their recruiting class signed. If anything it would make it worse.

If this is true, I feel bad for their daughter. Brian seems to be really close with her and she seems to like going to games. Hate for her to see this stuff going on

Was this time-sensitive? That’s my question. Had the tiebreakers worked in our favor and we were playing for the MAC title this weekend, would this still have occurred on Monday?

On the brightside I'm seeing a lot of activity on social media from future Bobcats and Logan Meyer is reposting a ton right now. A good distraction I suppose.

Really hope Levi Davis signs tomorrow.

I feel bad for the daughter either way. Parents are split and living like 4,500 miles apart.

With everything we’re hearing this is the only explanation that I can see would possibly lead to Coach Smith continuing here. Then again, everything else about this is weird so far.

From what I know, I'm expecting a negotiated settlement. Not sure how long that'll take.

WTF… any insight into how long it’s been listed or if it’s just “coming soon”?

I don’t imagine you can get a house fully listed in 36 hours or less?

Not true, considering they rent.

It also wouldn't be surprising in a divorce case for it to be for sale. It may not mean a lot.
