It’s now being reported that we will be vacating 7 wins for violations of NCAA rules.
Do you have an actual link that directs to a credible source?

That’s kind of hard to do when there is no investigation. WVU fans starting this stuff.

I haven't seen any reports of this other than one tweet from a WVU Memes twitter account. Do you have a link to this report?
I can’t even find it again so it’s probably false. Sorry about that I guess.

This is why "rage bait" is the 2025 Oxford word of the year. Memes and rage bait ruling society.

It came from a WVU meme account who quote tweeted Peter Nakos.

Look, I was hoping some news reporter would do this, but there is public record of a pending contested divorce filing by Smith’s wife last summer. The records in this case have been sealed. So I’m pretty sure this is family related, though sometimes allegations in messy divorces can draw scrutiny.

Posting details of these rumors would be a violation of board rules, but the divorce petition is public record.
There is more to this story. I think it unlikely that Smith ever coaches again at Ohio.

How about a homecoming for Tim Albin? Don't think Charlotte would be sad to see him leave.

Surprsingly, this thought crossed my mind. I think it highly unlikely, but possible under these very strange set of circumstances.

If it comes to this (which I doubt) We vacate all but the WVU win.

We preemptively vacated the Ball State win. Maybe that will keep the NCAA happy.

Why would we want a 1-win coach?

Surely, we can do better.

Great day to be flooded with "Giving Tuesday" emails from the Bobcat Club. Head Football coach is on leave with zero explanation from the University.

I'll make a deal if they call. You give me the inside scoop, I give for Tuesday. Who says no?

Could someone please post the content of this for those of us who don’t have X Twitter accounts? Thanks
He said they were in a coaches meeting and AD burst in and made them leave, and they all had no idea what was going on.

He has since said this morning he would not expect Smith back with Ohio.

The university needs to act and quickly. This story is spiraling out of control. Horrible PR and getting worse by the minute.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't there basically no information available publicly?

It seems like there needs to be a "public" to have horrible public relations. Right now, it seems like 100% of the national interest basically amounts to people hoping this is a story they'll be able to make jokes about.

Barstool has quite the reputation, however, I wouldn't completely write them off. Obviously they are non-traditional "journalism" but they definitely could have information from a player. Especially if we have any on the roster that are considered "Barstool Athletes"

My buddy who lives in Denver, “OU fired the coach and is vacating wins?!”

It’s spreading because of the vagueness, secrecy and the timing.

It's pretty amazing in this age of Social Media that there's nothing out there besides the original statement from OU.

We found out instantly when Albin took the Charlotte job and got off the bus after the MAC Championship win.

But here we are almost a day later with no additional information. Seems very off and not good to say the least.

What Barstool says, and what’s reality are two different things. If a university has to terminate someone with cause (and I'm not even saying that's what's happening here), it takes a lot more than “Rumor is, Coach A did this or that.” Lars has to keep the university’s best interests in mind, not whatever the fans want to know and when.

My comment was mostly towards the first statement about the coaches meeting. There isn't any statement from anybody at Barstool about Smith getting terminated but just a blanket statement that they personally wouldn't expect him back. I write off the second part but the first part could have some legs.

Not saying I believe Barstool by any means, it just wouldn't shock me if any of our guys have been in contact with them.

The secrecy and vagueness of the official university statement is very telling to me. This could only be bad IMO and it must be bad enough that they feel the best way to handle it is to remain as vague as possible. I'm guessing to buy time.

“According to head coach Brian Smith's attorney, Smith is on paid leave for the time being. His attorney says Smith was asked to leave in the middle of the day yesterday, and they deny any wrongdoing. The attorney claims no allegations or charges have been brought against Smith.”

“We reached out to the university and the athletic department for further comment, but they provided none beyond yesterday’s announcement”

Agree on the timing. If it wasn't any big deal, even potentially, why not wait until after the bowl game? I guess I'm already going to the endgame. If there is termination or mutually parting of ways, there eventually has to be some stated reason, not just some vague statement. If it is found he will return, it's best not to say anything at all now. Which leads me to the conclusion the decision hasn't been made.
