Ricky Hunt is a good running back but as we've seen, that's a spot where there's a lot of guys available just looking for an opportunity.

Hunt has shown flashes and I thought he could be a valuable piece moving forward but also believe we'll find someone that will step in and get the job done. There's going to be players similar to Tyus that will want to play alongside Parker Navarro on a team looking to win a MAC Championship.
Anybody familiar with a backup RB at Kentucky named Chip Traynum (sp?) that just went portal? Originally from the Canton-Akron area?
I think Chip Trayanum is heading to Toledo. This RB has been at Arizona St., Ohio State, Kentucky and now Toledo. His YPC is really good. If he stays healthy he will be a huge get for the Rockets. I think this player attended Akron Hoban?

Eric Decker reports Ohio is the only team in FBS without a single player in the portal to this point.
In my best Sgt. Schultz voice, "Verrrry Interesting!" There appear to be many twists and turns to the Albin Soap Opera. Waiting for the final act.

One possibility is that all the grumbling/unhappy people left last year, and the team was simply "more fun" this year with everyone happy to be at Ohio. That's a very good thing about the portal; people don't have to stay where they don't want to be, so if they aren't happy, rather than grumbling, they can just leave.
Probably at least a few Ohio players will enter the portal after the bowl game, but for now, they want to stick together and have fun as a team for one more game.
L.C., I believe you're on to something. I'll pile on and add another potential factor for the lack of portal entrants thus far: Albin's botched departure on the night of the championship was no doubt a very challenging situation for the team. I think facing that kind of adversity as a unit may have galvanized them somewhat...a kind of "us against the world" mentality.
The departure was "botched" by the athletic department, not Coach Albin. The AD had five months to get Coach Albin's contract completed. The administration failed to do so. The administration including the president knew of his offer at Rice before the Ball State game and still didn't get a deal done. However, when Coach Albin departed it didn't take the administration but 4-5 days to get a deal done with the new head coach. Just another way this administration mistreated the two time conference coach of the year and a semifinalist for national coach of the year.

As for the players having "more fun" this season. That could be true, but many of these players stayed on for a few reasons. 1) The bowl was in Orlando and one of the early bowls before Christmas. 2) They wanted to add another chapter to Bobcat football history trying to be the only team to win 11 games in a season. 3) Our staff did a great job getting the team prepared and keeping the focus on the bowl game. As far as all the grumbling/unhappy people leaving last season, I'm not sure about that. Kurtis Rourke along with several others got paid pretty well to leave for a new school. Those players couldn't make that kind of money staying in Athens. The majority of the players that depart in the portal in the next few days will not be rewarded financially like Rourke and a few others last season.

Can we stop with the sob story for Tim Albin? This is college athletics. It's not always a fair business. At the end of the day, Albin chose to leave for Charlotte.

Could the administration handled things better? Sounds like it but is the end result poor for Ohio football? Doesn't seem like it.

Agreed. It takes two sides to get a deal done as well.

Freshman LB Parker Startz in the portal.

That's two freshman LBs in the portal now. We're up to 10 Bobcats in the portal.

Really liked what Bowman brought on Special teams this season and Startz had a ton of potential. I saw Faanes offered right away or got in early on him to prompt the move. Either way.
Ohio brings in two LB recruits to replace with Minnis and Christopher.

Doggette is an underrated loss if he does move on. One I don't get. You transferred "down" from UC. You had a solid season with a high usage role but not a superstar. I'd be very curious what attention he gets in the portal. Furthermore, Rice may be done, Henderson I think has one more year of eligibility but is a RS Senior on the roster, Chris Mayfield has vanished from the roster. Nathan Hale I don't remember even playing. We have like no interior D-linemen.

DT was such a concern this season and will be again apparently. CJ was a great addition last year. They ended up with a really good rotation. Who knows what this looks like next year?

My gut tells me those LBs end up in Charlotte.

One of things I’ve been curious about is seeing how many transfer downs that go back up we start seeing? Haven’t been many I can think of, but some of these guys are viewing the G5 as a JUCO. One year to prove they still got it after riding the bench in P5 and then right back up to hopefully catch on a rotation.

Something to keep an eye on. Carson Heideckers instagram shows “Ohio University football ‘25”. If he has two more years, that’s gonna be a huge help on the OL.

Question: Is contact allowed before a player enters the portal? Not that anyone follows rule anymore, but isn’t there some rule against that?

Gotta presume Weaver is gone. He put his name in last season. Had another great season.

I hope he looks at Dulac and says why not me?

The MAC had more All Americans than any other G5. Like I always say, you can ball out here - get yourself some good tape - or go sit the bench at Colorado and jump back in the portal and never be heard from again. Think on it kids. It’s fun to come out of that tunnel… I bet Dulac is gonna have more fun on an NFL roster next season.
Isn't Weaver's kid brother on his way to Athens?
Far as I know.

He’s a 0 star so who knows if that’s really a factor in Bradley moving on to what he determines to be bigger and better.
Welp.

We may never know how much he will get, but teams with virtually no NIL money like Ohio ( as far as I can tell) will lose any really good player in today’s market. There’s just a lot of money being thrown around now. For guys who have very little chance of playing in the NFL ( not necessarily including Weaver here) why not sign for 100’s of thousands now. There will be lots of guys who don’t play much at the P-4 teams, but they’ll still be around the game they love at least.

Bradley has earned anything he chooses. He needs to find a fit that will play him. I don't know if he is an Ohio State type guy but definitely Cincinnati? Louisville? Kentucky? I hope he returns but do understand it.
