The Bobcats lost 14-15 good players to power four teams in 2024. It is the new normal. They ended up winning 11 football games in 2024. Did any of you ever consider that possibly these players like Shay Taylor and K Schmitz wanted to play for the previous LB coach/CoDC in Charlotte? It happens all the time. And yes they probaly got offered more cash to go somewhere else. However, it could be they really want to play for a coach they feel comfortable with.

Yes. I think that's exactly what happened. I suspect that Shay, in particular, was offered some cash to play for P4, and opted to play in Charlotte instead.

Whatever the reason, players leaving need to be replaced. Backups from P4 can show their ability when they move down, as Tyus did. Players from D2 can shine when they move up, as Leake did. Things will go on, but I have to admit that I prefer the days when you could watch players improve each year, and you knew which players would be on the team next year.

SHEDRICK RHODES IS BACK!!!
Is he the player to be named later in the Weaver trade? ; )

This is good news - needed talent on the O-Line
With the signing of 322 pound Rhodes and 340 pound Andres Dewerk the Oline is getting bigger and better.
Weatherspoon was one of our best linemen by year's end and you throw in experienced dudes in Trent Allen along with Waite from Shippensburg and Cisse from Idaho being in our system a year. I think with our stable of skill guys and Parker's running ability our offense can be solid yet again. Depends on what Sieh we get.
Staff has done a great job in the portal so far. OL was a position of concern but with the latest additions I'm feeling pretty good.

Of course things can change but the OL may look something like this...

RT - Rhodes / Jones
RG - Allen / Waite / Johnson
C - Wright / Parson
LG - Cisse
LT - Weatherspoon / Dewerk
At center we signed Dartmouths Nick Marinaro.

At 6’1”-295 he has that Parker Titsworth physique and attitude.

It looks like talent and depth along the O Line.

I completely forgot about Marinaro. He was all-Ivy I think. This will be interesting to see. OUr coaches have done a masterful job the last few years of replacing our High Major transfer-outs with low-major guys who have excelled: McNaboe, Leake, Owen, Rice, Dustin Johnson, Bruno, Heidecker. Heidecker was a D-3 Notre Dame guy (not that Notre Dame) and is now in an NFL mini-camp. I love filling the roster with dudes who just play football and hit. We don't need a ton of Doggettes or Dennises.

Transfer QB Timothy Carpenter to Athens. Spent last year at Tulsa. Originally committed to Indiana out of HS and then to Tulsa. From Trotwood-Madison HS.

A much needed addition to the QB room.

Perhaps I have missed some additions, but who have they added at LB and DT? There were significant losses at both positions. Is there enough depth to still be fine?

DT - Walter Bob. Was originally committed to Alabama of all places and allegedly couldn't qualify and ended up at Hutch in that Mississippi JUCO league that was featured in Last Chance U.

DT - Dukes from YSU. 6'2" 280 pounder. Doesn't have a lot of stats, but was ranked an 81 by 247 in the transfer ratings.

DE - Evan Hermann from Vanderbilt. From #1 player in Wisconsin. Ran the 100 meter hurdles in 14 seconds. 6'6" 240.

DE - Luqman from Ark Pine Bluff - had 33 tackles, 8 for loss.

LB - Just signed Makel Williams who has 330 (!) career tackles across D2 and JUCO, and might have 4 years left in D1. Kinda built like Blake Leake - small and quick.

We have Seegers coming back. Hope to see a big year from Jay Crable from a DE/OLB spot.

Defense always seems to have a guy come out of nowhere (Leake) and lead the team. I'm not all that worried. I think they have some talent coming in. Especially Williams. I'm eager to see him on the field.

I wasn't worried about DE, only LB and DT. The coaches obviously know better than we do what their current situation and needs are. I was just surprised that the lack of activity in that area, which, to me, signaled that they are comfortable with what they have, or that they have future announcements coming. I missed Hermann and Makel WIlliams, so thanks for the reply.

How big is Walter Bob? His measurables aren't listed on the athletics site and I was under the impression he was an end. Is he going to be used inside.

Lots of practice footage I've seen has Luqman running with the ones. I wouldn't be surprised if he's our most disruptive guy in our front seven.

Anas was a HR pickup, I hear. (Ricky Hyatt also)

Bob goes about 6-4, 240. Ended the year injured. If healthy could be a force.

I think RJK will be exceptional…hopefully this year. Just check out the last few drives of the Miami MACC game. Think he sat out Spring game.

They're looking for some more help at DL and LB, based on X follows, but not just warm bodies.

Hutch had him listed at 6'5" 225? Depression diet? Illness? Every other recruiting site had him between 6'4" - 6'5" 240-250 in HS.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/p...

Do we still count this as our highest-rated football recruit ever? It has to be right? A 4-star? #246 on the ESPN Top 300?

New JUCO signee - Derek Reagans. 6'2" 270 DL from City College of San Francisco. in six games played had 34 tackles and 10.5 TFLs in 2024. Bit of a tweener if he's an inside guy but that's very good production.

Saw that we offered a 320 lb. nose guard transfer from CMU. That would be nice.

Reagans was a running back in HS. Seems like a great athlete based on his HUDL. These kinds of players seem to do very well in Hauser’s D. Can move around a bit.

Yeah I checked out the hudl after I posted. He was used inside and on the edge so he has quickness. Good knack for slicing inside the gaps and meeting the running back right behind center.

I see according to Brett Mc Murphy that a couple ACC coaches summing up the current players available in the portal said on Instragram on Monday “ the portal is full of trash right now . There’s no one worth having”. Interesting take and they’re getting a lot of heat.

Will plug the middle at 325.

With 2 recent additions the interior DL is starting to shape up.

Another Blake Leake type linebacker would be nice.
